With the Matric and Plus Two examinations scheduled to commence next week, the Odisha government is ramping up efforts to ensure a smooth and disciplined examination process. The Plus Two examinations will begin on February 18, followed by the Matric examinations starting on February 19.
Chief Secretary Anu Garg has reviewed the readiness of examination logistics and issued strict directives to relevant authorities. She cautioned that any irregularities or negligence in managing the examinations would result in severe repercussions. All officials have been instructed to comply with examination management guidelines, with breaches expected to be addressed under the Odisha Examination Management Act, 1988, as well as the BNSS regulations.
Focus on Preventing Leaks and Malpractice
One of the significant challenges this year is the prevention of question paper leaks and academic dishonesty. To combat these issues, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond announced that QR codes and watermarks would be implemented on question papers. Additionally, AI cameras are set to be installed at key locations, including question hubs and examination centers.
“Students prepare sincerely for their examinations, only to later find that question papers have gone leaked. These things are happening only for money. Such incidents are recurring in the state board examinations. If the system becomes truly secure, it will be a positive sign for the future,” remarked Dipansu Patra, a Matric student.
Over 4.16 lakh students are expected to participate in the Plus Two examinations across 1,357 centers, while more than 5.61 lakh candidates will take the Matric and related examinations at 3,082 centers throughout the state. Educationist Raghunath Panda emphasized the need for accountability, stating, “When question papers get leaked, the matter is often suppressed. We will urge the government to hold district-level officers accountable and assign responsibilities in every district, ensuring that question papers are not leaked again and that examinations are conducted smoothly inside examination halls.”
To bolster integrity and security, the government is implementing enhanced monitoring measures alongside technology-driven solutions. The objective is to conduct fair examinations and ensure timely results, providing reassurance to students and parents in advance of these critical tests.
As the examination dates draw near, the commitment from the Odisha government to maintain the integrity of the examination process reflects an urgent response to past challenges. With increased scrutiny and technological innovations, officials aim to minimize the risk of malpractice, fostering a more secure environment for students who have dedicated years to their academic pursuits.
The emphasis on a disciplined examination process not only aims to restore confidence among students and their families but also stands as a critical step toward enhancing the overall educational framework in the state. The successful execution of these examinations will be pivotal, not only for the immediate academic future of the students but for the broader perception of educational integrity within Odisha.
