Edgebase Invests in Cybersecurity, Expands AI Solutions Amid Rising Threats in Nigeria

Edgebase Technologies marks 20 years in Lagos by enhancing cybersecurity against AI threats in Nigerian sectors, strengthening global partnerships for advanced solutions.

Edgebase Technologies Limited marked its 20th anniversary in Lagos with a media event highlighting the company’s commitment to enhancing cybersecurity in response to the rapid acceleration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and associated threats. During the briefing, Joel Egbai, managing director and CEO of Edgebase, emphasized the urgency for organizations, particularly in Nigeria’s financial, telecoms, and manufacturing sectors, to bolster their cyber defenses against rising AI-powered scams, deepfakes, and digital impersonation.

Egbai underscored the company’s strategy to expand partnerships with global security firms and invest in advanced enterprise systems and data centre infrastructure, aiming to equip clients with the necessary tools to navigate the evolving threat landscape. “Technology is advancing rapidly, especially with AI influencing every sector. But with this growth also comes new risks. Deepfakes, scams, and AI-enabled threats are increasing,” he stated. He further affirmed that Edgebase is enhancing its cybersecurity portfolio to protect clients amidst these growing challenges.

Reflecting on the company’s transformation over two decades, Egbai noted that Edgebase has evolved from a small technology firm into a leading enterprise solutions provider through talent development, trusted original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partnerships, and a proactive approach to innovation. As the company enters its next growth phase, it aims to strengthen internal capabilities, deepen its cybersecurity offerings, and expand collaborations with global technology leaders.

Modupe Adesiyun, the general manager for sales, echoed Egbai’s sentiments regarding the critical need for businesses to adopt secure, forward-looking infrastructure in light of AI advancements. She emphasized that Edgebase has consistently maintained strong relationships with top global OEMs, including HP, Dell, Lenovo, Microsoft, and Huawei, holding platinum and gold partnership statuses. These alliances are crucial for delivering next-generation cybersecurity and AI-enabled enterprise solutions to clients.

Adesiyun stated, “We don’t just deliver boxes; we deliver solutions. As AI becomes mainstream, we see our role not only as solution providers but as educators, helping clients choose technologies that keep them competitive and secure.” The company’s direct engagement with OEMs ensures that clients receive authenticated, globally aligned technology, a strategy that has become increasingly vital given the sophistication of cybercriminal networks leveraging AI tools.

Adeyinka Alade, head of operations and supply chain management, and Kola Afolabi, executive director and human capital lead, highlighted the importance of strong governance and prudent financial management. They explained how these practices have enabled Edgebase to navigate Nigeria’s funding constraints and invest meaningfully in innovation. Their resilience, they noted, is grounded in a commitment to delivering value through integrity, trust, and solution-driven service, even amid economic downturns.

As part of its anniversary celebrations, Edgebase plans to roll out a series of community-focused corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, which include ICT support for secondary schools and eco-friendly technology campaigns. Looking forward, the company aims to position itself at the intersection of emerging technologies and cybersecurity, helping Nigerian enterprises mitigate AI-driven risks while enhancing digital competitiveness.

At AIPressa, my work focuses on exploring the paradox of AI in cybersecurity: it's both our best defense and our greatest threat. I've closely followed how AI systems detect vulnerabilities in milliseconds while attackers simultaneously use them to create increasingly sophisticated malware. My approach: explaining technical complexities in an accessible way without losing the urgency of the topic. When I'm not researching the latest AI-driven threats, I'm probably testing security tools or reading about the next attack vector keeping CISOs awake at night.
