The Chinese corporation Alibaba has launched a new AI model for video generation, named Happy Horse, which has quickly ascended to the top of industry rankings. The announcement comes as Alibaba’s innovation unit, ATH AI Innovation Unit, seeks to establish a strong foothold in the competitive field of artificial intelligence-driven video generation.
Following its debut, Happy Horse has outperformed other notable models, including ByteDance’s Seedance 2.0, according to the Artificial Analysis rankings for text-to-video conversion. Alibaba’s latest tool, currently in beta testing, is anticipated to be accessible via API in the near future, further broadening its potential user base.

The competitive landscape for AI-driven video generation is evolving, particularly as the monetization potential of such tools becomes increasingly clear. Following OpenAI‘s exit from the sector, Chinese firms have seized the opportunity to dominate the rankings, with Alibaba now positioned as a key player.
In early April, Alibaba also unveiled an updated version of its flagship video generator, Wan, developed by the Tongyi laboratory. The company had not disclosed prior to Happy Horse’s release that multiple teams were concurrently engaged in developing similar technologies, indicating a robust internal R&D focus.
As Alibaba intensifies its efforts in artificial intelligence, the company has also launched Qwen3.6-Plus, its latest cloud offering. The shift toward AI marks a broader ambition for Alibaba, as it aims to create a comprehensive general artificial intelligence system that can adapt to various use cases.
The emergence of Happy Horse not only showcases Alibaba’s technological advancements but also highlights the growing importance of video generation within the AI landscape. As the industry continues to evolve, the implications of such innovations will resonate across various sectors, underscoring the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in media and content creation.
