CAS Launches Newton AI Platform, Enhancing Scientific Discovery with 75% Trustworthiness

CAS unveils CAS Newton, an AI for scientific discovery, with 75% of users finding its insights more trustworthy than competitors, enhancing research efficiency.

CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society, has unveiled CAS Newton, an agentic AI designed specifically for scientific discovery. This innovation is rooted in over 150 years of curated scientific expertise from CAS scientists, which the company asserts ensures both accuracy and rigor in the insights it provides.

According to CAS, CAS Newton offers AI-generated insights that help researchers navigate ambiguity and conflicting results, thereby accelerating their progress in scientific inquiry. Initial user feedback indicates that three out of four users find CAS Newton’s answers more trustworthy compared to other AI tools.

Professor John Yates from the Scripps Research Institute emphasized the importance of the foundation upon which CAS Newton is built, stating, “CAS provides the most authoritative, comprehensive and rigorously curated chemistry data available.” He added that the development of intelligent AI agents based on this expansive knowledge base will significantly enhance access to information and boost efficiency for researchers.

CAS Newton will empower users, transforming casual users into highly effective superusers.

User feedback has already positioned CAS Newton as the leading agentic AI tool for scientists. The technology engages users in dialogues concerning complex scientific questions, retaining the context as inquiries evolve. This capability allows for the refinement of questions and the synthesis of results across multiple steps, helping researchers obtain trusted information more efficiently.

“The launch of CAS Newton marks a major shift in how scientific knowledge flows through discovery,” said Tim Wahlberg, Chief Product Officer and interim President of CAS. He noted that CAS Newton combines science-smart agentic AI with the reliability and governance of the CAS Content Collection, enabling researchers to transition from questions to verifiable answers.

CAS Newton pairs science-smart agentic AI with the reliability and governance of the CAS Content Collection so researchers can move from question to grounded answers they can verify.

Furthermore, the tool extends beyond a single interface, allowing it to be integrated into secure environments where organizations can employ CAS Newton alongside proprietary data. This feature provides R&D leaders and researchers a practical path to innovate faster without sacrificing trust.

R&D organizations can utilize CAS Newton in secure settings, incorporating it with proprietary data through various methods such as MCPs, APIs, and third-party AI platforms. This integration allows research teams to innovate using their own data while maintaining the reliability and governance of CAS data within their workflows.

In alignment with CAS’s ethical AI approach, CAS Newton is designed to operate securely, ensuring that user input remains confidential and that queries or results are not used for cross-user model training. This focus on ethical governance is integral to maintaining user trust in the platform.

CAS Newton is now accessible within CAS SciFinder, CAS BioFinder, and through a standalone CAS Newton interface, marking a significant expansion in the tools available to researchers. The introduction of this AI tool underscores a growing trend in scientific research towards leveraging advanced technologies to enhance the efficiency and reliability of information retrieval.

As the scientific community continues to evolve, the implications of tools like CAS Newton could pave the way for more efficient research methodologies and faster breakthroughs in various fields. By combining AI with a robust foundation of scientific knowledge, CAS is positioning itself at the forefront of technological advancements in scientific discovery.
