White House Launches Genesis Mission with 24 Partners to Accelerate AI-Driven Discovery

U.S. DOE partners with 24 tech leaders, including Amazon and Google, to launch the Genesis Mission, aiming to revolutionize AI-driven scientific discovery and national security.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has entered into collaboration agreements with 24 organizations, including major technology firms such as Accenture, Amazon Web Services, Google, IBM, Microsoft, and NVIDIA, to propel the Genesis Mission. This initiative is a national effort aimed at leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to expedite discovery science and enhance national security. Announced recently, the initiative builds on President Trump’s Executive Order and America’s AI Action Plan, focusing on establishing a scalable national infrastructure for scientific innovation.

The Genesis Mission is designed to substantially boost the productivity of American scientists and researchers by automating experiment design, accelerating simulations, and generating predictive models. While the mission centers on energy innovation, it also seeks breakthroughs in areas such as manufacturing and drug discovery. Collaborations were formalized through memorandums of understanding (MOUs), stemming from responses to DOE Requests for Information (RFIs) or ongoing projects with National Laboratories. All products resulting from these partnerships will be architecture-agnostic, ensuring broad applicability within the U.S. research and development ecosystem.

Organizations participating in the Genesis Mission include not only technology giants like AMD and OpenAI, but also research-focused entities such as Cerebras and xAI. Notably absent from the list are pure-play quantum computing companies, raising questions about the mission’s scope concerning cutting-edge quantum technologies.

As part of ongoing efforts to expand collaboration, the DOE has opened two RFIs. The “Partnerships for Transformational Artificial Intelligence Models” RFI will remain open until January 14, 2026, while the “Transformational AI Capabilities for National Security” RFI will close on January 23, 2026. The DOE encourages additional submissions and invites interested parties to reach out via email at [email protected] or visit www.genesis.energy.gov for more information.

“Today’s announcement of 24 new research partnerships is only the beginning, as we deliver on President Trump’s mandate to bring the entire scientific community, including companies, universities, non-profits, and Federal agencies, into the Genesis Mission,”

Michael Kratsios

The collaboration agreements represent a concerted effort to harness AI for broader scientific advancement, thereby removing barriers to innovation and reducing reliance on foreign entities. The partnerships encompass a diverse array of stakeholders, including universities, non-profits, and federal agencies, all aligned to accelerate discovery science and fortify national security through AI technologies.

As the Genesis Mission unfolds, the DOE remains focused on building a robust national infrastructure that can drive significant advancements in both energy and scientific research. Two RFIs currently remain open for submissions, allowing further organizations to join this national effort. The Genesis Mission signals a strategic investment in AI as a catalyst for scientific innovation, with aims to push the boundaries of what can be achieved across various sectors.

With ongoing collaborations and future opportunities for partnership, the Genesis Mission represents an ambitious initiative that could redefine the landscape of American scientific research and national security. As the DOE continues to seek additional collaborators, the mission’s success may hinge on its ability to integrate diverse technological capabilities and foster innovation across multiple domains.
