AVEVA Launches AI Tools for Unified Engineering, Enhancing Design and Project Efficiency

AVEVA unveils AI tools for Unified Engineering, boosting project efficiency by streamlining workflows and reducing costs through advanced predictive design capabilities.

AVEVA has unveiled a new suite of artificial intelligence tools for its Unified Engineering product, which includes assistants tailored for industrial queries, generative design, and predictive design, in addition to an intelligent point cloud framework. This launch aims to enhance the engineering, procurement, and construction sectors, along with asset owners, in executing industrial projects more efficiently.

The AI tools are integrated within AVEVA‘s engineering and design environment, enabling users to interrogate project data and facilitate engineering tasks while also capturing essential product usage information. This functionality is targeted at both seasoned project teams and new personnel entering the field.

Among the new offerings is an industrial AI assistant designed to help users navigate project information and streamline engineering workflows. Additionally, the generative design AI assistant helps users apply specific design requirements to generate various layout options, such as pipe routing during the Pre-FEED and FEED stages.

The third tool, a predictive design AI assistant, empowers users to develop their own machine learning models to tackle unique design challenges without the need for coding expertise. This flexibility aims to increase accessibility for a broader range of users.

Moreover, the suite includes an intelligent point cloud framework, which allows for reading, importing, and displaying point cloud data while enhancing it with AI-based classification through the AVEVA Point Cloud Manager.

AVEVA has positioned this release as an immediate solution for customers, aligning with its overarching data-centric engineering strategy that encompasses 1D, 2D, and 3D design across multiple engineering disciplines. These tools are designed to work in tandem with AVEVA‘s multi-discipline environment, supporting collaborative workflows among project teams.

Industrial capital projects frequently depend on a plethora of software tools spanning various disciplines and phases, leading to complexities during handovers. This is particularly evident when trying to reconcile design intentions with actual conditions and operational data.

“Our new AI tools are assisting with the creation of digital twins, empowering project teams to collaborate on the same data in real time, launch quickly with minimal overhead, and drive global, data-centric engineering,” stated Rob McGreevy, Chief Product Officer at AVEVA.

McGreevy further emphasized the advantages of these tools, noting that they not only expedite project timelines but also reduce costs by minimizing IT demands, increasing transparency, and enhancing the handover process. “These tools will offer the ability to capture institutional knowledge and build bespoke AI/ML modules through no-code tools, meaning organizations can future-proof their projects while working smarter, faster, and more accurately,” he added.

AVEVA also underscored the significance of point cloud data in engineering projects, especially concerning brownfield modifications and site validation. Laser scans and associated point clouds are increasingly utilized to verify existing conditions, with the new framework linking to AVEVA‘s Point Cloud Manager and incorporating AI-driven classification capabilities.

The ARC Advisory Group has acknowledged the growing prevalence of AI tools across various engineering and design disciplines, including mechanical, civil, electrical, and process engineering. According to Peter Reynolds, Industry Advisor at ARC, “AVEVA’s launch of AI tools for engineering and design marks a significant step in reshaping design engineering for process manufacturers. AI is becoming a powerful tool to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and innovation across nearly every discipline.”

Looking ahead, AVEVA has expressed its intention to further develop these tools, building upon its domain expertise and the principles of data-centric engineering workflows. This strategic focus aims to not only improve current offerings but also adapt to the evolving needs of the industrial landscape.
