DG Matrix Integrates Infineon’s SiC Tech to Enhance Power Efficiency for AI Data Centres

DG Matrix partners with Infineon to integrate cutting-edge silicon carbide tech, targeting a $1B market for solid-state transformers in five years.

Infineon Technologies and DG Matrix have announced a strategic collaboration to integrate Infineon’s cutting-edge silicon carbide (SiC) technology into DG Matrix’s Interport multi-port transformer platforms. This partnership aims to enhance the efficiency, power density, and reliability of DG Matrix’s solid-state transformer (SST) systems, which are currently deployed in various locations around the globe.

DG Matrix plans to source SiC semiconductors from Infineon as part of its strategy to strengthen its global supply chain. “AI data centres and next-generation electrification systems demand higher efficiency, higher power density and uncompromising reliability,” stated Andreas Weisl, Executive Vice President and Chief Sales Officer for Industrial and Infrastructure at Infineon. He added that “solid-state technology, enabled by Infineon’s leading silicon carbide power semiconductors, can deliver this next level of performance and value.” The multi-port solid-state transformer architecture developed by DG Matrix is characterized as an innovative approach to power conversion.

Unlike traditional copper- and iron-based transformers, SSTs utilize semiconductor-based components. According to the companies, these systems can achieve dimensions that are up to 14 times smaller and 40 times lighter compared to conventional models, while also offering faster deployment and enhanced control over voltage, power quality, and energy flow. Their ability to convert medium-voltage grid power directly into the low-voltage supply required for data centres, electric-vehicle charging networks, renewable energy systems, and industrial microgrids is viewed as pivotal for future grid modernization.

Infineon estimates that the global semiconductor market for SSTs could reach up to $1 billion within five years, indicating significant growth potential. Haroon Inam, CEO and co-founder of DG Matrix, emphasized that the company’s platform is designed to fully leverage the performance advantages of silicon carbide devices. “Infineon’s latest-generation SiC devices strengthen our supply chain and enhance the efficiency, power density and reliability of our Interport platforms,” he noted. “This collaboration supports our mission to deploy faster, more efficient power infrastructure for AI data centres and electrification worldwide.”

The rising global electricity demand, driven by digitalization and the rapid expansion of AI workloads, is putting increasing pressure on grid infrastructure. Both Infineon and DG Matrix contend that semiconductor-based technologies such as SSTs will play a central role in enabling smarter, more resilient, and scalable power systems. As the need for improved power infrastructure becomes more urgent, these innovations are positioned to meet the challenges of modern energy requirements.

Looking ahead, Infineon and DG Matrix anticipate expanding their partnership as DG Matrix progresses towards developing higher-voltage platforms and increasing production volumes. The ongoing integration of Infineon’s SiC technology into DG Matrix’s Interport family aims to accelerate the deployment of next-generation power infrastructure tailored for energy-intensive industrial and computing applications. Both companies are committed to advancing scalable, high-performance systems capable of addressing the power demands of AI data centres and broader electrification trends worldwide.
