Lumen and HPE Launch Edge AI Partnership to Enhance Network Security and Performance

Lumen Technologies partners with HPE to enhance edge AI capabilities, integrating advanced security and ultra-low latency for real-time applications across enterprises.

Lumen Technologies has announced a strategic partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) aimed at enhancing AI capabilities for enterprises at the edge of the network. This collaboration will integrate Lumen’s edge infrastructure with HPE Networking, now enhanced with Juniper Networks technology, making it easier for companies to deploy AI services quickly and securely.

According to Lumen, this combined offering allows enterprises to benefit from smarter, more secure operations that can scale seamlessly within hybrid environments. “We’re helping businesses turn ideas into action, quickly and securely,” stated Dave Ward, chief technology and product officer at Lumen. He emphasized that the partnership combines HPE Networking’s programmable networking with Lumen’s edge capabilities, facilitating the launch of AI services that can respond in real-time and are robust against potential threats.

Fostering Edge AI Use Cases

The partnership is expected to empower various edge AI use cases, particularly in sectors like retail, healthcare, and manufacturing. By positioning AI services closer to where data is generated and consumed, Lumen aims to minimize latency and enhance scalability. The recent introduction of the Lumen Connected Ecosystem allows customers to manage their network services with the same ease as cloud solutions, further supporting AI initiatives. HPE plays a crucial role in this ecosystem as a technology partner.

In addition, the deployment of HPE-owned Juniper Networks MX Series Universal Routers across the Lumen network is designed to support ultra-low latency and high throughput, making them ideal for real-time AI applications. “Our deployment with Lumen brings together the best of both worlds, programmable infrastructure and edge reach, to help customers unlock the full potential of AI,” remarked AE Natarajan, senior vice president and general manager of routing infrastructure solutions for HPE Networking.

Security Enhancements for AI Applications

Security is a significant component of this partnership. Lumen’s Defender Powered by Black Lotus Labs offers multilayered protection against emerging threats in the AI landscape, while HPE Networking contributes with inline encryption and line-rate DDoS defense. This dual approach aims to safeguard AI applications effectively, addressing the increasing vulnerabilities that enterprises face in the digital age.

Lumen has confirmed that the combined technology from Lumen and HPE will be available through both Lumen and its channel partners, making it widely accessible for businesses looking to enhance their AI capabilities at the edge.

This partnership underscores the growing trend of integrating edge computing with AI technologies, enabling businesses to operate more efficiently while keeping security at the forefront. As more enterprises look to harness the power of AI, collaborations like this are vital for navigating the complexities of deploying advanced network solutions.
