Google has unveiled new details about its upcoming “Android XR glasses” following an initial announcement at its I/O conference in May. The tech giant revealed it is developing two distinct types of smart glasses in collaboration with Samsung, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker, although precise specifications and launch dates remain undisclosed.
The first product, referred to as “AI glasses,” is designed without a display. Instead, these glasses incorporate a built-in speaker, microphones, and camera, allowing users to engage with Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, and capture photos. This model bears similarities to Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses and is expected to be released next year, according to Google.
The second offering, termed “display AI glasses,” is more intriguing and aligns with what Google previewed in May. These glasses will feature an in-lens display that privately presents information to the wearer, including turn-by-turn navigation and translation captions. Google has not yet announced a release date for these display-equipped glasses, but accompanying videos have showcased their functionality.
Both types of glasses will operate on Google’s Android XR, an operating system designed for “extended reality devices” encompassing headsets and smart glasses. The first device utilizing this framework, the Samsung Galaxy XR, was launched in October 2025.
The emphasis on integrating AI capabilities with wearable technology signifies Google’s commitment to expanding its presence in the smart glasses market. By collaborating with established brands like Samsung and Warby Parker, Google aims to enhance user experience and accessibility in augmented reality.
