President Dissanayake Joins 45-Nation AI Impact Summit in India, Addresses Global Challenges

President Dissanayake leads a 45-nation dialogue at India’s AI Impact Summit, tackling global challenges and promoting inclusive AI innovation for humanity.

COLOMBO (News 1st) – President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is set to depart for India today to participate in the 4th India AI Impact Summit 2026. The summit, themed “People, Planet, and Progress,” aims to bring together delegates from 45 nations to deliberate on the future of global AI policy.

Taking place at the Bharat Mandapam convention centre in New Delhi, the summit commenced yesterday and will continue until February 20. The Heads of State segment is scheduled to begin on February 19, during which President Dissanayake is expected to deliver a key address.

The event has drawn invitations for leaders from 20 nations, including notable figures such as French President Emmanuel Macron, Brazilian President Lula da Silva, and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Additionally, Prime Ministers and Vice Presidents from countries including Bhutan, Spain, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, the Netherlands, and Switzerland are also expected to attend.

The summit is designed to pave the way for a future where AI’s transformative capabilities are harnessed for the benefit of humanity, driving inclusive growth and fostering social development. It emphasizes the need for people-centric innovations that also aim to protect the planet.

Moreover, the summit seeks to amplify the voice of the Global South, ensuring that technological advancements are widely shared rather than concentrated in a limited number of regions. This approach reflects a growing recognition of the need for equitable access to AI technologies.

Previous editions of the summit were hosted in various global locations: the United Kingdom in 2023, the Seoul Summit in South Korea in 2024, and the AI Action Summit in Paris, France, last year.

The event also promises participation from prominent figures in the tech industry, including Google CEO Sundar Pichai, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, NVIDIA founder Jensen Huang, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, and Indian industrialist Mukesh Ambani, as reported by Indian media.

As the summit unfolds, it will focus on creating frameworks and guidelines that not only foster AI innovation but also ensure that ethical considerations are at the forefront of development. The discussions are anticipated to set the stage for future collaborations aimed at harnessing AI for global good.

This summit represents a significant opportunity for leaders worldwide to engage in critical dialogue on AI policies that could shape the future. It serves as a reminder of the collaborative efforts needed to ensure that AI technologies contribute positively to society, especially in addressing challenges faced by marginalized populations.

As President Dissanayake prepares for this pivotal summit, all eyes will be on the outcomes of the discussions, especially regarding commitments that may emerge to promote inclusivity in AI technology and its applications.
