Fingerprint, a leading provider of device intelligence focused on fraud prevention, has introduced its new Authorized AI Agent Detection system, aimed at helping enterprises differentiate between legitimate AI agents and malicious bots. This launch marks an important development as AI agents continue to penetrate various sectors, prompting organizations to reassess their digital interaction strategies.

Fingerprint’s ecosystem includes authorized AI agents from notable platforms such as OpenAI, AWS AgentCore, Browserbase, Manus, and Anchor Browser. This system allows businesses to identify AI-driven traffic with complete confidence, effectively distinguishing between trusted automation and harmful web scrapers. As the market adapts to the increasing prevalence of AI in automated web traffic, understanding who is interacting with digital platforms has become crucial.

Traditional methods often employed a “block all bots” strategy, treating all forms of automation as potential threats. However, this approach frequently disrupts legitimate workflows and fails to safeguard against serious fraud and abuse risks. “For years, the goal was simply to stop the bots, but that’s a losing strategy as an increasing number of interactions are becoming automated,” noted Valentin Vasilyev, CTO and co-founder of Fingerprint. He emphasized the need to identify every visitor, whether a bot, authorized agent, or human, to maintain competitive advantage in today’s landscape.

As AI agents become more integrated into daily transactions, analysts are urging businesses to adopt new frameworks for trust and identity online. Todd Thiemann, principal analyst at Omdia, predicts that by the end of 2026, customers will increasingly rely on AI agents for various transactions, from booking flights to making routine purchases. This shift necessitates a robust solution to verify the identity of participants in these transactions.

Fingerprint’s new detection system provides organizations with a clearer view of who or what is interacting with their digital services. Companies can now differentiate between authorized and unauthorized AI agent traffic, enabling them to implement controls based on identification rather than generic bot detection alone.

As the adoption of AI agents spreads, the need to clearly differentiate trusted automation from malicious activities has become paramount. Tao Zhang, co-founder and CPO at Manus, expressed support for Fingerprint’s initiative, stating, “We’re pleased to participate in this ecosystem and support efforts to make agent interactions more transparent, secure, and reliable.”

This new system aligns with emerging open standards for AI agent verification and authentication. Thibault Meunier, a research engineer at Cloudflare and creator of Web Bot Auth, remarked on the importance of real-world deployment to enhance open internet protocols. He added, “Cloudflare welcomes Fingerprint’s implementation of AI agent verification and its participation in the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) standardization process, which helps accelerate practical outcomes for the ecosystem.”

Fingerprint’s Authorized AI Agent Detection supports a variety of real-world applications across industries. For instance, AI agents can safely access permissioned environments like PitchBook or Financial Times for enterprise automation, streamlining data analysis without raising red flags. In workforce automation, agents can handle customer support, CRM updates, issue resolution, and other tasks traditionally performed by human teams, enhancing operational efficiency while ensuring robust safeguards against abuse.

Furthermore, companies in e-commerce and fintech can selectively allow AI agents to facilitate transactions, creating seamless interactions for customers while maintaining strong defenses against fraud, such as account takeovers. Paul Klein, CEO and founder of Browserbase, underscored the importance of harnessing AI agents while mitigating risks, articulating that the collaboration makes “agent identity” a priority on the web.

As organizations navigate this evolving landscape, the emergence of reliable AI agent detection solutions could redefine how businesses interact with digital traffic. The collaboration between Fingerprint and other leading platforms like Manus and Browserbase is set to enhance the integrity of online transactions and workflows, allowing companies to leverage automation without compromising security.
