Workato has inaugurated its AI Lab in Singapore, a significant advancement in its pledge to cultivate AI talent and drive innovative applications through collaboration between academia and industry. Launched in October 2025, this initiative is backed by the Digital Industry Singapore (DISG) and aims to enhance the adoption of AI technologies among businesses both locally and across the region.
The new lab will concentrate on translational AI research, fostering the development of practical solutions to real-world business challenges. It will act as a collaborative hub for Workato, Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), and industry partners, promoting synergy between academic research and commercial application.
“By working together with postgraduate students, researchers, and business leaders, we are co-developing practical AI solutions that address real-world challenges and help shape the workforce of the future,” said Ee Shan Sim, head of Workato’s AI Lab Singapore. “This initiative is about creating meaningful connections between research and enterprise, ensuring that Singapore remains at the forefront of applied AI and talent development.”
Philbert Gomez, senior vice president and executive director of DISG, emphasized that the initiative will enhance collaboration between Singapore’s educational institutions and industry, accelerating the translation of AI research into innovative solutions. “The co-development of automation and agentic AI solutions across multiple industry sectors will reinforce Singapore’s position as a global leader in AI,” he noted, adding that it will create exciting opportunities for the local workforce.
The AI Lab is set to create 65 high-value skilled jobs and aims to deepen public-private partnerships within the Singaporean AI ecosystem. By closely collaborating with IHLs, the lab will advance applied AI research and facilitate the deployment of practical solutions, providing thousands of students and educators with access to advanced AI automation tools. This will also enable participation in real-world industry projects.
Addressing the skills gap in the workforce, the initiative equips individuals to meet the evolving demands of the global job market, ensuring that Singapore remains a leader in digital transformation.
Additionally, the lab will drive advancements in autonomous agents and multi-agent orchestration, allowing intelligent systems to collaborate, adapt, and learn to tackle complex business issues. Serving as a bridge between research and enterprise, the lab aims to translate innovative ideas into actionable AI solutions that deliver measurable impacts for organizations.
The launch of the AI Lab builds on Workato’s broader initiative, the AI Institute Alliance, which was announced at the World of Workato (WOW) 2025 conference in September. This alliance includes partnerships with prominent educational institutions such as Nanyang Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, the Singapore University of Social Sciences, and the National University of Singapore.
Through this collaborative effort, Workato has already provided automation and integration training to over 3,000 students and educators. The AI Lab aims to deepen this impact by offering hands-on experiences in creating AI agents, digital twins, and generative AI applications designed for business transformation.
As the digital landscape continues to evolve, initiatives like Workato’s AI Lab could play a pivotal role in ensuring that Singapore not only keeps pace with global AI advancements but also leads in the development of cutting-edge AI technologies.
