Lee, chief AI officer at the SANS Institute, expressed a more straightforward perspective on the situation. “Anthropic is not a cybersecurity company like Mandiant or Google, so give them a break. And what indicators of compromise are actually going to help defenders? If they were very clear about how they detected this, that’s on their end,” Lee remarked. He criticized the idea of releasing IOCs that may only be useful to a specific company, labeling such an approach as “ridiculous.”
Anthropic, the AI company at the center of this debate, has been cautious about sharing technical specifics related to its cybersecurity practices. In a statement to CSO, the company explained, “Releasing IOCs, prompts, or technical specifics can give threat actors a playbook to use more widely.
