AwanBiru Technology Secures RM16.4M Contracts for Google AI Tools in Higher Education

AwanBiru Technology secures RM16.42M contracts from Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education to deploy Google AI tools in public universities, enhancing digital learning.

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 29): AwanBiru Technology Bhd (KL:AWANTEC) has secured two contracts valued at RM16.42 million from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) to provide Google artificial intelligence (AI) tools to public universities. The contracts were awarded to its wholly owned subsidiary, Awantec Systems Sdn Bhd, on December 26, as disclosed in a bourse filing on Monday.

The agreements encompass the provision of NotebookLM Enterprise and Gemini for Google Workspace to students, lecturers, and administrators at public universities. The first contract, valued at RM10.62 million, focuses on supplying AI tools for students, while the second contract, amounting to RM5.8 million, is aimed at supporting lecturers and administrators.

Set to commence on January 1, 2026, and concluding on January 31, 2027, the contracts will enhance the existing Google Workspace for Education ecosystem at these institutions. AwanBiru Technology stated that the deployment of these AI tools aims to integrate advanced AI-driven learning and productivity features into the educational framework.

The initiative underlines MOHE’s strategic effort towards digital transformation, designed to improve teaching and learning outcomes along with enhancing academic research productivity. Such investments in AI technologies align with a global trend to leverage advanced tools in educational settings, fostering an environment conducive to innovation and enhanced learning experiences.

Shares of AwanBiru Technology experienced a decline, closing at 29.5 sen, down by 1.5 sen or nearly 5% on Monday. This drop brings the company’s market capitalization to RM233 million. Despite this downturn, the contracts signify a commitment to technological advancement in Malaysia’s higher education sector.

The integration of AI tools like NotebookLM and Gemini into the educational landscape represents a significant step towards modernizing the learning environment, potentially transforming how knowledge is accessed and shared within public universities. As institutions increasingly adopt AI technologies, the implications for student engagement and faculty productivity could be profound.

Looking ahead, the collaboration between AwanBiru Technology and the Ministry of Higher Education may set a precedent for future initiatives aimed at enhancing educational capabilities through technology. As AI continues to evolve and permeate various sectors, the focus on integrating these advanced tools into educational frameworks is likely to grow, further emphasizing the importance of digital literacy and technological adaptability in today’s learning environments.
