DP World and MIT Launch Global Summit to Equip 250,000 Teachers with AI Literacy

DP World and MIT’s Day of AI Global Summit aims to equip 250,000 teachers and 6 million students with essential AI literacy skills within a year.

The inaugural Day of AI Global Summit recently concluded at Expo City Dubai, co-hosted by DP World and MIT’s Responsible AI for Social Empowerment and Education (RAISE) initiative. This landmark event convened ministers, education leaders, and technology experts to explore actionable pathways for implementing responsible artificial intelligence in educational settings worldwide.

Under the theme “AI for Every Learner,” this two-day gathering brought together policymakers from over 30 countries, along with representatives from esteemed organizations such as the World Bank and UNESCO. The summit aimed to lay out concrete recommendations designed to equip millions of teachers and students with the necessary skills to excel in an AI-driven future.

This first international edition of MIT RAISE’s Day of AI program aims to make 250,000 teachers and six million students AI-literate within the next year. The open-access program promotes equitable, research-based AI education across various regions and languages, emphasizing inclusivity and access.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, remarked, “Opportunity is shaped by technology – and more and more, by AI. Economies will only grow if people have the skills to navigate the digital age. The benefits of AI will only be shared if young people have access to it and the skills to use it.” He emphasized that initiatives like the Day of AI help ensure that teachers, students, and communities can participate in this transformative journey.

Professor Cynthia Breazeal, Director of MIT RAISE, expressed the significance of the summit, stating, “The Day of AI Global Summit marks a powerful milestone in our shared mission to make AI education accessible to all. What we are seeing here in Dubai is a truly global community of ministers, educators, and innovators, all coming together with a shared belief that every student deserves the opportunity to understand and shape the technologies that are transforming our world.”

A Global Dialogue on Responsible AI Education

The summit’s opening day featured high-level ministerial roundtables and keynote sessions led by MIT experts and education ministers from countries including Rwanda, Latvia, Colombia, and Kazakhstan. Discussions led by MIT faculty, including Professor Breazeal and Professor Eric Klopfer, explored the integration of AI learning with technical skills, creativity, ethics, and critical thinking. The Day of AI program has already reached educators and students in over 175 countries through local partnerships, virtual training, and teacher-led workshops.

Participants engaged in hands-on demonstrations of AI-powered learning tools, curriculum design labs, and case studies focused on inclusion and digital equity. The World Bank articulated its strategy to ensure equitable access to AI’s benefits in education across different regions.

Representatives from UAE schools, notably Dubai Heights Academy, showcased how MIT-developed AI curricula are fostering creative and ethically grounded learning environments for students. The summit continued on its final day with sessions focused on AI literacy policies, enhancing global partnerships, and announcing collaborative initiatives aimed at scaling AI education, particularly in emerging markets.

As part of its broader mission to advance innovation and education, DP World is investing $35 million through its Global Education Platform to reach 1.5 million students globally by 2030. This investment emphasizes resources in STEM, green skills, logistics, and technology-driven careers.

The Day of AI Global Summit serves as a pivotal moment in the global effort to empower future generations through AI education, demonstrating a collective commitment to fostering a responsible and inclusive technological landscape.

At AIPressa, my work focuses on discovering how artificial intelligence is transforming the way we learn and teach. I've covered everything from adaptive learning platforms to the debate over ethical AI use in classrooms and universities. My approach: balancing enthusiasm for educational innovation with legitimate concerns about equity and access. When I'm not writing about EdTech, I'm probably exploring new AI tools for educators or reflecting on how technology can truly democratize knowledge without leaving anyone behind.
