The Bias, Ethics, and Privacy Cluster at the Center for Interdisciplinary Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (CIDSAI) in New York University Abu Dhabi is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Associate under the guidance of Professor Hanan Salam. This position focuses on developing frameworks, tools, and theoretical foundations aimed at addressing bias detection and mitigation in artificial intelligence (AI) and data science, with a particular emphasis on the Arab world. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

The successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team that operates at the intersection of machine learning, algorithmic fairness, human-computer interaction, and responsible AI. The project aims to analyze how bias emerges in data pipelines and AI systems, exploring design and development decisions that may propagate social biases. Key responsibilities will include creating bias detection tools, developing fairness-aware algorithms, and contributing to practical guidelines and theoretical frameworks that tackle systemic bias in data-driven systems.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, AI, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field, along with a robust research track record in areas such as algorithmic fairness, bias in machine learning, ethics in AI, or sociotechnical systems. Strong programming and data analysis capabilities are essential, while experience in interdisciplinary research is preferred. The position offers a unique opportunity to influence high-impact research that aims to drive equitable and inclusive AI technologies in the Arab region.

The appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal depending on performance, not to exceed five years in total. The terms of employment are highly competitive, offering a salary that surpasses internationally competitive rates for postdoctoral positions. Additional benefits include generous housing, transportation and travel allowances, educational subsidies for children, full health insurance, and retirement contributions. Notably, the UAE does not impose income tax.
