Chhattisgarh’s Vidya Samiksha Kendra Achieves National Recognition for AI-Driven Education Governance

Chhattisgarh’s Vidya Samiksha Kendra earns national recognition for boosting digital education governance, achieving 89% Aadhaar verification for 3.9M students.

The IIT Bhilai Innovation and Technology Foundation has acknowledged Chhattisgarh’s Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) as a national benchmark for digital education governance. This recognition highlights the state’s technology-driven platform as a scalable framework for educational administration across India, enhancing its reputation in the realm of digital education.

The VSK operates as a centralized real-time monitoring system, enabling data-driven decision-making across one of the country’s largest public education networks. Chhattisgarh oversees more than 48,500 government schools that serve approximately 3.9 million students, supported by a workforce of 180,000 teaching and non-teaching staff.

Implemented by the School Education Department under the Department of Good Governance and Convergence, the VSK addresses longstanding challenges such as fragmented data systems, delayed administrative responses, and inefficient monitoring. By delivering accurate, actionable insights in real time, the platform aims to revolutionize educational governance.

This system integrates essential databases including UDISE, HRMIS, PM POSHAN, PGI, APAAR ID, Aadhaar, and GIS mapping into a unified ecosystem. Such integration facilitates continuous tracking of school infrastructure, teacher deployment, student attendance, learning outcomes, and the implementation of welfare schemes.

Employing artificial intelligence-based analytics and predictive models, VSK aims to identify potential student dropouts and learning gaps at an early stage. This aligns with the National Education Policy 2020’s goals of promoting equitable, inclusive, and quality education across the country.

Since its implementation, the platform has generated APAAR IDs for approximately 87% of students, with Aadhaar verification completed for around 89% of the student population. The system’s barcode tracking of 21.3 million textbooks has resulted in a remarkable ₹50 crore in savings through enhanced efficiency and reduced leakages.

A dedicated Command and Control Centre, alongside an active Call Centre, supports the platform by enabling grievance redressal, data verification, field-level feedback, and sustained stakeholder engagement. These mechanisms have significantly strengthened trust and responsiveness between the administration and citizens, fostering a collaborative environment.

According to the IIT Bhilai Innovation and Technology Foundation, the VSK represents more than just a technological platform; it serves as a catalyst for institutionalizing a data-driven governance culture. This recognition positions Chhattisgarh among India’s leading states in terms of citizen-centric digital infrastructure and governance.

The implementation of the VSK may serve as a model for other states aiming to enhance their educational systems through technology. As the push for digital governance continues across India, Chhattisgarh’s example underscores the potential of data-driven approaches to address systemic challenges in education, ultimately enriching the learning experience for millions of students.
