PLEASANTON, Calif., Jan. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — A recent industry report highlights that building an AI-ready infrastructure is a critical priority for companies in the consumer product goods (CPG) sector. The “State of AI in Consumer Goods Report” reveals that 82% of organizations are either consolidating legacy systems or transitioning from best-of-breed solutions to unified platforms. This shift aims to provide necessary connectivity across systems, which is essential for standardizing data and processes vital for leveraging AI applications.
The report indicates that a substantial majority, 72%, of CPG companies are either using, preparing to use, or planning to adopt agentic AI to enhance their manufacturing operations. This trend underscores the pressing need for systems capable of delivering clean and standardized data. Key insights from the research into the technology landscape of the CPG industry include several challenges that organizations face in deploying AI and machine learning technologies.
Notably, barriers to AI implementation remain significant. Sixty percent of respondents cited compliance and security issues, alongside high costs and resource constraints, as top challenges. Additionally, 58% of organizations reported integration complexity with existing systems as a hurdle. Moreover, a prevailing reliance on manual processes continues to pose risks; 64% of CPG companies reported employing a mix of digital and manual methodologies or predominantly manual processes with limited tools for managing quality and compliance across the supply chain. Respondents identified advanced data integration and process automation capabilities as crucial for improving IT efficiency by reducing repetitive tasks and eliminating data silos.
The appetite for AI-powered predictive analytics is evident, with respondents citing several key benefits. The primary reasons for valuing AI-driven analytics include enhancing quality and compliance assurance (24%), improving decision-making and data-driven insights (21%), and enabling proactive issue detection and prevention (19%). This focus on real-time insights for quality control indicates a demand for technology partners who possess a robust understanding of manufacturing and compliance needs.
Furthermore, the survey emphasizes that a balanced approach across people, processes, and data is vital for the successful launch of AI initiatives. Significant enablers identified include comprehensive employee training programs (72%), high-quality data infrastructure (66%), and AI cybersecurity and compliance measures (64%). This suggests that achieving success with AI will necessitate coordinated organizational readiness and commitment.
“The State of AI in Consumer Goods Report shows that managing quality across numerous legacy systems is hindering AI readiness. To use AI effectively, respondents are considering establishing a strong data foundation on a unified platform that can scale to realize clear value,” said David Maher, head of strategy at Veeva QualityOne. His remarks frame the ongoing challenges CPG companies face as they navigate the complexities of integrating AI into their operational frameworks.
The report surveyed over 150 IT and functional leaders at global CPG companies in the United States. It explores the industry’s AI readiness, identifies challenges to AI adoption, and highlights areas where IT can drive value and innovation.
