Morocco Joins WIPO’s Global AI Initiative to Enhance Intellectual Property Systems

Morocco joins WIPO’s AI Infrastructure Interchange to enhance digital governance and protect rights in AI-generated content, led by Minister Amal Al-Falah Al-Sagroshni.

AGADIR, Morocco (MNTV) — Morocco has taken a significant step in the realm of digital governance by joining a new global initiative focused on artificial intelligence and intellectual property. The initiative, launched by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), aims to establish the Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Interchange (AIII), a platform designed to foster international dialogue on the technical challenges that AI presents to intellectual property systems.

Representing Morocco at the launch was Amal Al-Falah Al-Sagroshni, the country’s Minister of Digital Transition and Administration Reform. During her remarks, Al-Sagroshni underscored Morocco’s commitment to advancing research, innovation, and its overall digital transformation. She highlighted national initiatives such as “AI Made in Morocco,” which is geared toward supporting startups, businesses, and research institutions in creating homegrown artificial intelligence solutions.

The AIII initiative seeks to unite policymakers, technology experts, creators, and intellectual property holders to share knowledge and tackle the practical challenges that arise from AI technologies. Unlike traditional approaches that focus on establishing legal standards, the platform emphasizes the development of technical and operational tools aimed at managing ownership and rights associated with AI-generated content.

Key areas of focus for the initiative include the implementation of watermarking, metadata systems, digital identifiers, and content recognition technologies. These tools are proposed to help differentiate between human-generated and AI-generated works, thereby enhancing traceability and protecting rights in an increasingly complex digital landscape.

WIPO plans to support these discussions with the creation of a technical exchange network, which will consist of experts from academia, the private sector, and civil society. This network will play a vital role in identifying solutions for emerging issues related to AI infrastructure and intellectual property management.

Moroccan officials have emphasized the crucial role of international cooperation in the development of responsible AI systems. They advocate for transparency and the protection of digital rights, aligning these efforts with the broader sustainable development goals articulated at the international level.

This initiative highlights a growing global concern regarding how rapidly evolving AI technologies challenge established frameworks of ownership and creativity. Countries like Morocco are increasingly recognizing the importance of engaging actively in policy discussions to shape the future landscape of digital innovation and governance.

As AI technologies continue to evolve and permeate various sectors, Morocco’s involvement in the AIII initiative signals its intent to be at the forefront of addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by these advancements. By fostering collaboration and focusing on practical solutions, Morocco aims to ensure that its interests and the rights of digital creators are adequately protected in this transformative era.
