NVIDIA Invests $2B in Marvell to Boost AI Infrastructure with NVLink Fusion Partnership

NVIDIA partners with Marvell, investing $2B to enhance AI infrastructure with NVLink Fusion, enabling scalable, custom AI systems amid surging demand.

NVIDIA and Marvell have announced a significant partnership aimed at developing advanced AI infrastructure, building upon NVIDIA’s NVLink Fusion platform. This initiative allows customers to create semi-custom AI systems within the NVLink ecosystem, enhancing their capabilities in a rapidly evolving market. Under the agreement, Marvell will supply custom XPUs and networking technologies that are compatible with NVLink Fusion, while NVIDIA will provide critical components, including its Vera CPU, ConnectX network interface cards, BlueField data processing units, NVLink interconnect technology, Spectrum X switches, and rack-scale AI compute systems.

The partnership is designed to enable customers to construct heterogeneous AI infrastructure that integrates seamlessly with existing NVIDIA systems. This will facilitate the incorporation of NVIDIA’s GPUs, networking, and storage technologies while leveraging the company’s extensive global supply chain and software stack. Such integration is crucial as businesses increasingly seek to optimize their AI capabilities to meet growing demands.

In addition to enhancing data center operations, the collaboration aims to transform telecommunications networks into AI infrastructure, utilizing NVIDIA’s Aerial AI-RAN technology for the future of 5G and 6G systems. Both companies will also focus on developing advanced networking solutions, including optical interconnects and silicon photonics, which are expected to play a pivotal role in the scalability and efficiency of AI systems.

NVIDIA’s founder and CEO, Jensen Huang, emphasized the urgency of the current market demand for AI computing, noting a rapid acceleration as companies strive to build systems capable of generating AI responses and processing vast amounts of data. “The inference inflection has arrived. Token generation demand is surging, and the world is racing to build AI factories. Together with Marvell, we are enabling customers to leverage NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure ecosystem and scale to build specialized AI compute,” Huang stated.

Marvell’s chairman and CEO, Matt Murphy, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the critical importance of high-speed connectivity and accelerated infrastructure in scaling AI systems. “By connecting Marvell’s leadership in high-performance analog, optical DSP, silicon photonics, and custom silicon to NVIDIA’s expanding AI ecosystem through NVLink Fusion, we are enabling customers to build scalable, efficient AI infrastructure,” Murphy noted.

This partnership comes on the heels of NVIDIA’s recent $2 billion investment in Nebius, aimed at expanding its AI cloud capabilities. As the demand for AI technology continues to grow across various industries, collaborations like this one signal a broader trend in the tech landscape, with companies increasingly focused on creating robust AI infrastructure to meet future challenges.

Looking forward, the convergence of AI and telecommunications infrastructure promises to redefine how industries operate, with potential implications for sectors ranging from healthcare to autonomous vehicles. The collaboration between NVIDIA and Marvell may well serve as a blueprint for future partnerships aimed at accelerating the adoption of AI technologies and enhancing their integration into critical systems.
