Intuit Launches 600 Advisory Centers and 20 TurboTax Stores, Blending AI with Human Expertise

Intuit plans to open 600 advisory centers and 20 TurboTax stores, merging AI-driven tax services with in-person expertise in a hybrid model.

Software developers are increasingly transitioning into platform providers, with some, like Intuit, extending their digital ecosystems into the physical world. The financial technology giant, known for products such as TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp, plans to open 600 advisory centers and 20 TurboTax stores across the U.S. This initiative represents a new hybrid strategy that integrates agentic AI with human expertise. Recently, a visit to the newly opened TurboTax flagship location in SoHo showcased how this ambitious concept operates.

Intuit’s new business model reflects a significant shift in the software industry: companies are increasingly becoming service-oriented. However, Intuit is pushing this transformation further by fully integrating live “done-for-you” services, AI-driven support, and year-round financial advice into one platform. The SoHo flagship, located at 463 Broadway, marks the nationwide rollout of this “expert platform” strategy, establishing Intuit as a provider of both digital tools and in-person expertise.

Designed by Gensler with digital content by Buck, the flagship reimagines the traditional, often sterile, tax filing experience. The space resembles a lounge rather than an office, featuring a 10-meter curved CoB LED wall, comfortable seating areas, co-working-style desks, and private consultation rooms. This architectural approach emphasizes hospitality, presenting a striking contrast to conventional tax offices.

Intuit characterizes the flagship as the physical embodiment of its AI + HI strategy. The company’s agentic AI automates up to 90% of routine tax data entry and can pre-prepare most straightforward returns before clients even begin their consultations. An AI-driven matching engine identifies the most suitable local tax expert in mere seconds, allowing customers to transition effortlessly between digital and in-person support. Whether opting for “Do It With Me” guidance in the communal workspace or choosing to entrust the entire process to a private office, the platform ensures a seamless digital-physical workflow.

The flagship also features the Forum Zone, which encompasses a 10-meter LED wall displaying ambient animations and interactive content. This area serves as both an educational hub and a branding showcase, introducing customers to the potential of AI-enabled tax preparation while highlighting instances where human expertise remains crucial. The space is designed to accommodate community events, financial workshops, and training sessions, thereby extending the role of tax preparation into ongoing financial engagement.

Through this hybrid model, Intuit is positioning itself not just as a software provider but as a comprehensive financial partner with a tangible presence in major cities across the United States. The SoHo flagship sets a strong precedent for future expansions, blending architectural innovation, digital storytelling, and integrated service delivery.

Intuit’s flagship in SoHo is more than an impressive retail environment; it disrupts the traditional tax advisory business by replacing outdated cubicles with a fixed-fee, hospitality-style service experience. While AI competently handles most tax preparation tasks, many clients still seek the reassurance provided by a human expert for such sensitive matters. Intuit effectively combines both elements within a modern and inviting setting.

Utilizing its high-value Manhattan real estate for more than tax appointments, the flagship will host events, training sessions, and community gatherings throughout the year. For digital signage providers, this initiative raises a critical strategic question: should software platform vendors expand beyond their digital offerings? By collaborating with creative agencies and providing on-site content and experience design support, digital signage companies could unlock new value, particularly in flagship and high-visibility retail locations.
