AI Impact Summit Set to Unlock ₹8 Lakh Crore Investments, Position India as Global Tech Leader

AI Impact Summit in India aims to unlock ₹8 lakh crore in investments, gathering leaders like Bill Gates and Sundar Pichai to shape global AI policy.

New Delhi: The upcoming AI Impact Summit, scheduled to take place from February 16 to 20 in India, is poised to become a pivotal event, emphasizing investment opportunities, technological partnerships, and global policy alignment. The Indian government anticipates that the summit will facilitate nearly $100 billion (approximately ₹8.3 lakh crore) in investment proposals. Organized by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the summit aims to gather an array of global technology leaders, industrialists, researchers, and policy experts.

Attendees will include notable figures such as Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Google DeepMind chief and Nobel laureate Demis Hassabis, Meta’s Chief AI Officer Alexander Wang, and Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic. Indian corporate leaders including Mukesh Ambani, N. Chandrasekaran, and Sunil Mittal are also expected to contribute to the discussions.

The summit is anticipated to be the largest AI-focused gathering ever held by a developing country, with representatives from over 100 nations convening to discuss global AI policy, data governance, ethical considerations, safety frameworks, and regulatory structures. The chosen theme, “AI for the greater good of all,” highlights the intention to ensure that the benefits of artificial intelligence extend beyond corporate gains to positively impact citizens. The event is structured around three foundational pillars: People, Planet, and Progress, emphasizing inclusive and sustainable technological advancement.

Amidst high-level discussions surrounding computation and governance, cybersecurity remains a pressing issue. The Future Crime Research Foundation (FCRF) will feature prominently as a Knowledge Partner, hosting a session titled “AI for Secure India: Combating AI-Enabled Cybercrime, Deepfakes, Darkweb Threats and Data Breaches.” This session, to be held on February 17, will be moderated by Prof. Triveni Singh, former IPS officer and Chief Mentor at FCRF. A panel of legal, industry, and cybersecurity experts will engage in crucial discussions about the intersection of AI and security.

The focus of this session is clear: while AI serves as a catalyst for economic progress, it also amplifies cyber risks. Threats such as AI-generated deepfakes and automated phishing schemes contribute to a more complex and unpredictable cyber landscape. By integrating security discussions into the summit’s core programming, FCRF emphasizes the essential need to embed security within AI systems from the outset rather than as an afterthought.

In addition to security, dedicated sessions will showcase practical applications of AI across key sectors, including healthcare—where AI is utilized for early disease detection and telemedicine—agriculture, governance, and skill development. Experts believe that India is positioning its AI framework as an inclusive model, potentially replicable across the Global South.

Investment and infrastructure will also be primary focuses of the summit. Multiple bilateral and multilateral agreements, joint research collaborations, and investment announcements in AI startups are expected. Key areas of focus will include data centers, chip design, cloud infrastructure, and digital public infrastructure, alongside efforts to enhance global participation in domestic manufacturing and the semiconductor value chain.

India’s AI market is anticipated to grow significantly, with projections suggesting it could reach $17 billion by 2027, more than tripling from 2024 levels, and expanding further to a staggering $131 billion by 2032. Automation, data analytics, and AI-driven services are set to comprise a substantial share of the economy over the coming decade.

Policy analysts have identified three strategic advantages stemming from the summit: attracting investment inflows for R&D and manufacturing, fostering a skilling economy for youth through AI training, and enhancing India’s global leadership role in AI ethics and inclusive policy frameworks. The overarching goal is to establish India not merely as a consumer of AI but as a developer and exporter of advanced AI solutions.

Should the anticipated investments and partnerships materialize, the AI Impact Summit could serve as a significant catalyst for accelerating India’s digital economy, potentially marking a transformative step toward positioning the country as a global AI hub.
