Seattle-based Amazon has unveiled a revamped delivery system, introducing new one-hour and three-hour options aimed at enhancing customer convenience. Currently, shoppers in select cities can choose from over 90,000 products available under this expedited service, which the company announced recently.
The one-hour delivery option is already operational in hundreds of cities and towns across the United States, while the three-hour delivery service extends to more than 2,000 locations. Customers can verify availability for their area through Amazon’s platform.
Amazon Prime members are set to benefit further from this new system, enjoying discounted rates for expedited deliveries. The one-hour service is priced at $9.99 for Prime members, while the three-hour option costs $4.99. In contrast, customers without a Prime membership will incur full prices of $19.99 for one-hour delivery and $14.99 for three-hour delivery.
Udit Madan, senior vice president of Worldwide Operations at Amazon, commented, “Our customers are busier than ever and are looking for new ways to save time while keeping their households running. We saw an opportunity to use our unique operational expertise and delivery network to help make customers’ lives a little easier while unlocking even more value for Prime members.” He emphasized that Amazon continues to innovate, enhancing delivery speed while upholding its reputation for low prices and a vast selection of products.
In addition to these new expedited options, Prime members can still access Amazon’s Same-Day Delivery, which remains free on qualifying orders. Launched in 2015, this service has expanded significantly, offering delivery on millions of items. The newly introduced one- and three-hour options complement Amazon’s existing suite of delivery services, which includes two-day shipping and Next-Day Delivery.
The advancements in delivery options come as part of Amazon’s broader strategy to cater to varied customer needs while maintaining a focus on affordability and reliability. The company is also testing a new service called Amazon Now, which aims to provide delivery in roughly 30 minutes or less for thousands of essential items and perishable groceries in select locations.
This latest development underscores Amazon’s ongoing commitment to leveraging its operational expertise in an increasingly competitive retail landscape. As consumer habits evolve and demand for faster delivery options grows, the tech giant appears poised to adapt, ensuring it meets the needs of its diverse customer base.
