HBO Max Unveils Future Slate in London Showcase
HBO and HBO Max chief Casey Bloys showcased the network’s upcoming programming slate during an event in London on Wednesday, bringing along a host of stars to discuss their projects.
Among the highlights was the announcement of Euphoria season three, set to launch in April, with the exact date still to be determined. Bloys welcomed executive producer, writer, and director Sam Levinson to the stage, who teased plot developments involving Zendaya’s character Rue. The new season will explore innovative ways Rue seeks to pay back her debts, while Sharon Stone will portray a showrunner, alongside Sydney Sweeney and Colman Domingo, both of whom will face fresh challenges.
Levinson expressed excitement over the success of the Euphoria cast in various projects since the first season. He emphasized that the upcoming season centers on their transition from the safety net of school, stating, “The stakes are higher.”
Additionally, Bloys was joined on stage by Michael Patrick King and Lisa Kudrow, creators of The Comeback, and Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, co-creators of Industry. Kay promised that season four of Industry would be “the most entertaining season we have made.”
Another noteworthy announcement came from the upcoming series A Night of the Seven Kingdoms, which is set within the Game of Thrones universe. Co-creator and showrunner Ira Parker described the protagonist, Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall, as hailing from “the ass-end, shit hole end of Westeros.” He characterized the series as a lighter take on the GoT universe, aiming to attract audiences who may not have seen the original series. Parker also promised a “gritty, and miserable, and muddy” show, humorously noting that the lower budget aligns with Dunk’s upbringing.
Parker praised star Peter Claffey as an exemplary leader and referred to Dexter Sol Ansell as “the greatest child actor ever.”
Concluding the event, Kudrow and King discussed the return of The Comeback, which will focus on themes related to artificial intelligence. King stated, “It’s very grounded in real life. This is not sci-fi,” and Kudrow added that the series would explore potential real-world issues tied to AI.
In further remarks, Bloys explained that prior Max originals were somewhat “nebulous” but have evolved into “more cost-efficient, yet elevated” content. He highlighted recent successes such as Task, which attracted 12.6 million viewers per episode, and The Chair Company. He noted that IT: Welcome to Derry ranks just behind House of the Dragon and The Last of Us in terms of audience performance.
When questioned about the impact of ongoing bidding processes for Warner Bros. Discovery, Bloys asserted, “It’s business as usual for us.” He emphasized the importance of international local productions, noting they are “vital to our success and can break out at any moment.”
Bloys also previewed upcoming trailers for shows such as Rooster, Lanterns, and House of the Dragon season three, while mentioning a new untitled comedy by Sharon Horgan that was introduced back in February.
The showcase in London followed earlier announcements regarding HBO Max’s international expansion, which will include market launches in Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein on January 13. Further, Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed the service would make its debut in the U.K. and Ireland in early 2026, marking the completion of its European rollout.
Earlier in the day, Sarah Aubrey, HBO Max head of originals, spoke at the Content London conference about the upcoming Harry Potter series and confirmed the renewal of the Spanish local original Furia (Rage), highlighting the company’s commitment to expanding its development slate.
