Meta Expands AI Translation to Five New Indian Languages on Instagram and Facebook

Meta enhances AI translation on Instagram and Facebook, adding support for five Indian languages and enabling creators to reach broader audiences with natural-sounding audio.

Meta Platforms has expanded its AI translation capabilities across its platforms, including Instagram and Facebook, by introducing support for five new Indian languages. This initiative, aimed at assisting content creators in reaching a wider audience, was announced during the House of Instagram event held in Mumbai.

The update will enable creators to translate their Reels into languages such as Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu, effectively broadening their content’s accessibility. Utilizing Meta AI technology, the new dubbing feature maintains the original tone of the creator’s voice, while delivering natural-sounding translated audio. Furthermore, the lip-sync feature ensures that mouth movements are synchronized with the translated speech, allowing videos to appear as though they were originally recorded in the target language.

This launch follows prior support for several languages, including English, Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese, indicating Meta’s commitment to enhancing multilingual engagement on its platforms. Alongside the translation improvements, Meta’s Edits app, a mobile video-editing tool, will also introduce various Indian font options, allowing creators to style captions and text in Bengali script. This addition aims to make content more relatable for local audiences, thus fostering greater connection among creators and their viewers.

To access the new fonts in the Edits app, users can start a project, select Text, and then browse through the available font options. This move is seen as a significant step toward empowering Indian creators and influencers, who will now be able to express their creativity in a manner that resonates more closely with their local audience.

As Meta continues to invest in AI-driven solutions, this expanded language support represents a broader trend in the tech industry, where companies are increasingly focusing on localization to enhance user experience. With the rise in demand for diverse content, the ability to communicate effectively across language barriers is becoming essential for digital platforms. The updated features from Meta not only reflect its commitment to innovation but also highlight the evolving landscape of content creation in India and beyond.
