SKAX has made a significant stride in the realm of artificial intelligence education with the approval of its “Artificial Intelligence (AI) Competency Certification Platform” by the South Korean government. This marks the first official recognition of a domestic Generative AI competency certification system, aimed at enhancing the AI capabilities of organizations across various industries. The announcement was made on October 6, highlighting SKAX’s intent to accelerate AI transformation among domestic enterprises.
The company, which has been running its AI competency certification platform for approximately a year, has received the green light from the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Human Resources Development Service. This certification is part of a broader “Corporate Qualification Government Recognition System,” which evaluates the effectiveness and objectivity of job qualification systems operated by businesses. SKAX’s platform has been utilized by around 3,800 SK Group members during its initial year.
In its evaluation, SKAX’s certification system was noted for its innovative structure, which automates the entire process—from test-taking to scoring—through the application of AI technologies. The platform’s design aims to not just assess knowledge acquisition but to verify actual job performance capabilities, setting it apart from traditional qualification systems.
The certification process unfolds in two stages. The initial stage, dubbed ‘AI literacy,’ assesses participants’ understanding of foundational Generative AI principles, including the use of prompts and their application in everyday tasks. This learning and assessment occurs on an online platform, allowing members to demonstrate their understanding and execution in practical work contexts.
The second phase, referred to as ‘AI Boot Camp,’ is focused on higher-level competencies in AI utilization. Participants engage in hands-on training, developing AI agent services for applications such as web and app development, which are then evaluated based on their technical outputs. This two-tiered approach seeks to ensure that individuals not only learn about AI but also effectively apply it to real-world challenges.
SKAX emphasizes that all courses are designed for deployment on AI-driven online platforms, facilitating education, practice, evaluation, and scoring for large organizations. This format is tailored to meet the needs of substantial entities looking to bolster their workforce’s AI capabilities.
“AI transition now requires internalization and change management of capabilities of all members, not in the area of a specific department or expert,” stated Kim Min-hwan, head of HRX promotion at SKAX. He further noted that the acquisition of government recognition signifies that SKAX’s AI education and certification models, validated in real industrial environments, have gained public trust. The company aims to enhance its certification system to serve as a standard model for organizations seeking to navigate their own AI transitions in the future.
This initiative represents a significant milestone in South Korea’s ongoing efforts to advance AI literacy and competency within its workforce, aligning with global trends where businesses increasingly recognize the need for comprehensive AI training to maintain competitive edge. As industries evolve with the adoption of AI technologies, the establishment of credible certification systems will likely play a crucial role in ensuring that employees are well-equipped to meet the demands of modern workplaces.
