Abu Dhabi-based technology group G42 has entered into a significant partnership with a consortium of Vietnamese companies, including FPT Corporation and the Viet Thai Group, to develop sovereign artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing infrastructure across Vietnam. The agreement, announced on Monday, involves an investment of up to $1 billion to establish AI and cloud capabilities at multiple data center locations aimed at supporting both public and private sector computing requirements.
The initiative is part of Vietnam’s broader strategy to enhance its technological landscape and safeguard national data sovereignty. According to G42, the partners will construct and manage large-scale data centers dedicated to delivering high-performance AI and cloud services. This move aligns with Hanoi’s ambition to position itself as a leading technology hub in Southeast Asia, ensuring both digital resilience and security.
As detailed in the framework cooperation agreement, the consortium will deploy significant cloud capacity across three data center locations in Vietnam. “This framework agreement represents a new model for national AI transformation, one built on sovereignty, partnership and purpose,” said Ali Al Amine, chief commercial officer of G42 International. The collaboration is expected to bolster Vietnam’s ambition to implement national AI initiatives and drive innovation across various sectors, including government, industry, and research institutions.
FPT Corporation will leverage its technical expertise and local market knowledge to aid in the project, while Viet Thai Group will contribute strategic capabilities across sectors such as retail and logistics. G42 will provide advanced AI infrastructure capabilities to support these efforts. Leaders from the consortium emphasized that this partnership is crucial for propelling Vietnam’s digital transformation and enhancing its technological capabilities.
Officials stated that the next steps involve finalizing the public-private workload distribution, securing regulatory approvals, and commencing the construction of the data centers. Vietnam has been actively pursuing hyperscale digital and AI infrastructure development, recognizing it as a key component of its economic strategy. The government aims to strengthen data security and digital resilience while enhancing its stature as a regional technology hub.
The collaboration between G42 and the Vietnamese consortium marks a pivotal development in the country’s technological landscape, underscoring the increasing importance of AI and cloud infrastructure in driving economic growth. As Vietnam continues to modernize its digital infrastructure, this initiative could significantly impact its trajectory in the global tech arena.
