Jentic Launches AI Readiness Scorecard to Transform API Infrastructure for Enterprises

Jentic, an Irish startup founded in 2024, aims to address the critical gap between the rapid deployment of AI agents and the outdated application programming interfaces (APIs) that power many enterprise systems. As businesses strive to harness AI for tasks ranging from booking flights to managing customer complaints, they face an underlying challenge: APIs were primarily designed for human use, not for the autonomous AI agents that are now emerging.

Michael Cordner, co-founder and chief technology officer at Jentic, emphasized the necessity for businesses to prioritize proper API documentation and design. “When you’re developing for humans, you can cut a lot of corners… But for AI agents to be useful, you can’t skip—those corners don’t work anymore,” he stated. This realization has spurred Jentic to assist companies in transforming their legacy systems into “agentic enterprises.”

Along with Cordner, co-founders Dorothy Creaven and Sean Blanchfield have been pivotal in Jentic’s vision. The company aims to integrate existing APIs and infrastructure, enabling seamless communication for AI agents. Creaven noted that many enterprises possess bespoke solutions that lack sufficient integration, highlighting the need for Jentic’s services: “We’re connecting everything together without having to create a complete sovereign data stack.”

In December, the founders participated in AWS re:Invent, where they discussed their plans to onboard new customers and identify design partners. The company’s focus is squarely on legacy systems, such as enterprise resource planning and supply chain applications, as opposed to SaaS APIs, which Cordner views as a more cluttered landscape. “The hard part is the back end,” he remarked, stressing the importance of clean, accessible systems to enable AI functionality.

Jentic’s approach includes scoring APIs across six dimensions to evaluate their readiness for AI integration. Once an API is deemed suitable, a virtual sandbox is created, allowing developers to experiment. Cordner explained that Jentic monitors the AI’s actions, recording API calls and creating reusable workflows for future tasks. “We think everything should be out in the open,” he asserted, advocating for transparency in API development.

The company has already garnered attention, having raised four million euros ($4.6 million) in what is described as Ireland’s largest pre-seed funding round, led by Elkstone Capital Partners. This capital will support Jentic’s mission to enhance the quality of SaaS APIs and prepare enterprises for the evolving landscape of AI.

In an effort to assist businesses in understanding the limitations of their APIs, Jentic also introduced an AI Readiness Scorecard. This automated tool helps enterprises assess the strength of their API infrastructure. Blanchfield noted the challenges faced when AI pilots encounter real systems, stating, “It’s garbage in, garbage out: weak API foundations lead to unpredictable agents.” Among the 1,500 APIs Jentic analyzed, common pitfalls included insufficient documentation and non-compliance with OpenAPI specifications.

Recently, Jentic launched Jentic Mini, an AI-curated catalog of over 10,000 APIs and workflows designed to facilitate the deployment of agents while minimizing security risks. Blanchfield characterized this initiative as laying the groundwork for a future where “the next era of software will not be built for humans. It will be built for agents, by agents.” By providing an open-source foundation, Jentic aims to empower developers and organizations to transition from pilot projects to real-world AI applications.

As the enterprise landscape rapidly evolves, Jentic’s commitment to improving API accessibility and integration could play a critical role in shaping how companies utilize AI agents. The startup’s focus on legacy systems, along with its initiatives for open-source development, sets a precedent for how businesses can prepare for the next generation of automated solutions.
