On Wednesday, President Donald Trump’s newly appointed AI advisory council elicited mixed reactions, with top tech executives expressing gratitude while critics cautioned against increasing corporate influence in policymaking.
Several high-profile executives selected for the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, known as PCAST, welcomed their appointments. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. CEO Lisa Su remarked on being “honored to be nominated” and expressed eagerness to advance U.S. technology leadership alongside fellow council members.

Co-chaired by David Sacks and Michael Kratsios, the council’s formation has been celebrated on social media, with both co-chairs expressing gratitude for their appointments. Sacks stated he is “honored and grateful” to serve in this capacity alongside Kratsios, who is the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Criticism, however, surfaced from some quarters. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) denounced the council’s composition, suggesting it diverges from traditional practices. She asserted, “Only money gets a seat at the table,” arguing that advisory bodies typically include leading scientists and academics instead of corporate executives.
Warren’s remarks highlight concerns over corporate influence in government, particularly as tech giants like Meta, Google, and Nvidia each contributed $1 million to Trump’s inauguration fund. Furthermore, Ellison’s Oracle is involved in a deal to manage TikTok’s U.S. operations, which was approved through a previous executive order by Trump.
The establishment of this council signals a notable shift towards a corporate-centric approach in technology policy, prompting questions about the balance between industry input and independent scientific expertise.
