Microsoft Unveils Microsoft 365 E7 Plan with Copilot Cowork and Anthropic Models

Microsoft reveals its Microsoft 365 E7 plan, integrating Copilot Cowork and Anthropic’s Claude Cowork, with a $15 per user price and 160% YoY user growth.

Microsoft has announced significant advancements in its Microsoft 365 Copilot product, marking what it describes as a ‘third wave’ of artificial intelligence capabilities. This development follows recent speculation regarding a new Microsoft 365 E7 plan. The company emphasizes that this third wave transcends simple assistance, enabling the AI to complete tasks and execute workflows on behalf of users, thereby signaling a transition from generative AI to agentic AI.

Notably, Microsoft’s Copilot Cowork will leverage models from Anthropic, specifically Claude Cowork, alongside its established partnership with OpenAI and reliance on GPT models. This integration is designed to enhance the assistant’s ability to manage long-running, multi-step tasks, allowing it to function more like a human colleague. Through this upgrade, Copilot Cowork will coordinate actions across various applications and files, providing additional context to user tasks.

In a related announcement, Charles Lamanna, President of Business Apps and Agents at Microsoft, detailed how the new capabilities enable agents to perform actions such as organizing calendars and conducting in-depth research. A video shared on LinkedIn showcased how Copilot Cowork also supports additional skills and plugins, further enhancing its utility for business users.

Microsoft reported a 160% year-over-year increase in Copilot users, with actual daily active users surging tenfold. This growth underscores the demand for improved management solutions within the platform. To address these needs, Microsoft plans to introduce Agent 365, set to become generally available on May 1, at a price point of $15 per user per month. Microsoft has drawn parallels between Agent 365 and existing people management tools, emphasizing features such as observability, governance, management, and security.

In its preview phase, Microsoft noted that tens of millions of agents have already been registered on the Agent 365 platform, as highlighted by Microsoft Commercial CEO Judson Althoff. With the build-up of agent capabilities, the company appears to be positioning itself to fulfill a growing market demand for more sophisticated AI-driven workplace solutions.

The anticipated Microsoft 365 E7 plan, priced at $99 per user, will bundle M365 E5, M365 Copilot, and Agent 365 into a single billing subscription. This streamlined approach aims to reduce costs for businesses by offering a comprehensive package that consolidates various functionalities, making it more economical than purchasing each component separately.

As Microsoft continues to innovate in the AI space, the introduction of agentic AI capabilities through Copilot Cowork and the upcoming E7 plan signals a shift in how businesses might leverage technology to enhance productivity and streamline workflows. Companies looking to optimize their operations may find these advancements pivotal as they navigate a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
