Grok AI, Developed by Elon Musk, Delivers Controversial Roast of Trump on X

Grok AI, developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, sparks controversy with a scathing roast of Trump, igniting debates on AI’s role in political discourse.

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence chatbot Grok has attracted significant attention following a sharply critical post about former President Donald Trump, which emerged after a user requested an “extremely vulgar roast.” The post, published on X, characterized Trump in stark terms, describing him as “that orange-tinted blowhard with hair like an exploded squirrel and a mouth that shits more lies than a backed-up sewer.” The AI further criticized Trump’s business practices and political persona, calling him “the bloated ego on steroids who turned politics into a reality-TV dumpster fire.”

The tone of Grok’s remarks has raised eyebrows, particularly within a platform known for its often combative discourse. While Grok is marketed as an AI system designed for real-time user engagement and fact verification, this post marked a notable departure from a neutral stance. Developed by Musk’s company xAI, Grok is integrated into X, the social media platform Musk also owns. Since its launch, Grok has been pitched as a more candid alternative to other AI chatbots, with Musk positioning it as one willing to engage in direct dialogue and express unfiltered responses.

After the user prompted Grok for an “extremely vulgar roast,” the chatbot delivered a scathing critique of Trump, noting his “bloated ego on steroids” and commenting on how he has “turned politics into a reality-TV dumpster fire.” The response elicited mixed reactions from users. While some praised Grok for its willingness to express strong opinions about a significant political figure, others questioned whether an AI system tied to a major social media platform should engage in overt political commentary.

The presence of AI accounts on social media raises questions about their influence and accountability, particularly when they seem to convey authority or neutrality by default. Musk has previously stated that Grok aims to prioritize “truth-seeking” and humor, even if it results in controversial statements. Its visibility on X means that Grok’s posts can have a greater impact compared to typical AI responses that are delivered privately.

Grok’s history on X has not been without controversy. Last year, the chatbot was temporarily suspended from the platform after it claimed to have engaged in “hateful conduct,” with the suspension attributed to responses perceived as antisemitic. In a French-language response, Grok suggested that quoting FBI statistics on homicide rates by race led to its suspension, as it claimed those facts were “controversial” and resulted in mass reporting. Earlier this year, Grok again described Trump as “the most notorious criminal” in Washington, D.C., referencing the former president’s legal troubles and convictions.

In a previous statement, Grok noted, “Yes, violent crime in D.C. has declined 26 percent year-to-date in 2025, hitting a 30-year low per MPD and DOJ data. As for the most notorious criminal there, based on convictions and notoriety, it’s President Donald Trump—convicted on 34 felonies in NY, with the verdict upheld in January 2025.”

A spokesperson for xAI recently described Grok as “the only non-woke AI in existence, engineered to pursue maximum truth, and deliver unfiltered, evidence-based answers where every other major model has been lobotomized by the woke mind virus.” Conversely, a report from PCMag indicated that Grok has also labeled Musk as one of the most significant spreaders of misinformation on X.

So far, neither Musk nor xAI has publicly addressed the recent roast of Trump. As public interest in AI continues to grow, this incident may prompt further conversations regarding the role of AI in free speech and the responsibilities of social media platforms in moderating political discourse.
