Renowned Fallout Artist Deimos Rejects AI, Elevates New Vegas Art with Unique Vision

Artist Deimos captivates fans with his fine art-inspired pieces from Fallout: New Vegas, rejecting AI-generated art while gaining recognition from industry icons.

Artist Deimos has garnered attention for his captivating artwork inspired by the iconic game Fallout: New Vegas. His pieces have been recognized by both the game’s director, Josh Sawyer, and actor Danny Trejo, who voiced the ghoul character Raul Alfonso Tejada. Trejo has expressed particular admiration for Deimos’ portrayal of the gunslinger’s backstory set in Mexico.

Deimos’ artistry transcends typical fan art, infusing the 2010 RPG with a fine art aesthetic reminiscent of romantic painting. His work, especially the piece titled 2281 Overture, vividly depicts an NCR-aligned version of the game’s climactic battle, featuring the Courier surrounded by companions—an event that cannot be replicated in the unmodded game. Observers often draw parallels between this artwork and Eugène Delacroix’s famous painting, Liberty Leading the People.

Other notable pieces include You Feel a Little Woozy and Quarry Junction. The former illustrates a weary Courier leaning on the Dinner Bell unique shotgun, amidst fallen Cazadores, with the Nightkin companion Lily prominently displaying a poison antidote. Meanwhile, Quarry Junction captures a tense moment as the Courier desperately clutches Deathclaw eggs, hiding behind a car while endgame monsters close in.

Deimos’ artwork offers a glimpse into an idealized remaster of New Vegas, dramatizing experiences that the original game, built on a now 15-year-old iteration of the Bethesda Game Studios engine, cannot fully render. His pieces reflect daydreams many players had while engaging with the game, prompting deeper reflections on what New Vegas represents.

In an email exchange, Deimos shared his thoughts on the game’s enduring impact. He noted, “People don’t lie when they say that they still keep finding something new about it after each playthrough,” emphasizing how every decision can influence outcomes and endings. His personal attachment to New Vegas stems from it being his first RPG where he genuinely tried to roleplay, an approach that has inspired much of his artistic output.

Initially introduced to the series through Fallout 4, Deimos soon became captivated by Obsidian’s cult classic spinoff. His Instagram showcases a long-standing artistic connection to the game, which he anticipates will continue to inspire his work for years to come. A distinctive feature of Deimos’ art is his depiction of the game’s protagonist, Courier Six. He represents the character in various iterations of the Ranger armor, often with one eyepiece missing, allowing viewers to connect emotionally while maintaining the protagonist’s anonymity.

Another favored representation for Deimos is the Elite Riot Gear from the Lonesome Road DLC, which reflects his interpretation of a popular mod within the New Vegas community. This mod combines the Ranger gear aesthetic with a utility jacket, enhancing the visual storytelling of his art. Despite introducing artistic liberties, such as the use of the Desert Ranger helmet from the Honest Hearts DLC, he believes his interpretation remains true to the spirit of the original mod.

Deimos has also voiced his strong stance on AI-generated art, a topic of growing relevance in the artistic community. He openly rejects the use of AI in his work, as indicated by his social media bios. “I am eternally grateful for my fans,” he remarked, explaining that they quickly defend his authenticity against any claims of AI involvement. Deimos acknowledged the prevalence of AI art but expressed confidence in the enduring value of genuine human-made creations.

He concluded with a broader perspective on the art market, stating, “I believe it’s innate in humanity to appreciate real human-made art.” Deimos encourages fellow artists to focus on appealing to audiences that value authenticity, steering clear of those who claim AI art as their own. Fans can follow Deimos on platforms like Instagram or X and obtain high-quality prints of his artwork through Etsy or his personal website.
