In a significant move to embrace emerging technologies, the Odisha government is integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its administrative framework to accelerate the vision of a developed Odisha by 2036. This initiative aims to streamline operations and enhance efficiency across various governmental programs.
On October 10, 2023, the Works Department, under the leadership of Law, Works, and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, conducted a comprehensive training session at the Convention Centre in Lok Seva Bhawan. The one-day program was designed to equip department officials, engineers stationed at various locations, and employees with practical skills for incorporating AI into their daily workflows.
During the training, participants received hands-on instruction on several aspects of AI, including its applications, operational methodologies, and document generation from diverse data sets. The session emphasized the potential of AI to boost productivity and enhance decision-making in infrastructure projects and administrative tasks.
Attendees regarded this initiative as a landmark development, with many officials expressing optimism about its transformative potential. “This mega program on AI adoption among officials and staff will serve as a landmark in our journey towards efficient governance,” stated several participants during the session.
The workshop featured prominent figures such as Engineer-in-Chief (EIC) & Special Secretary Er. Lakshmikant Padhi, Additional Secretary Deepak Ranjan Das, Chief Engineer (Design) Er. Sameer Hota, Joint Secretary (IT) Dipti Ranjan Behera, Financial Advisor Ratikant Mohapatra, and Chief Engineer (Buildings) Er. Priyabrat Samantaray, among other departmental officials and employees. The training was facilitated by the Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC).
This training session aligns with the broader governmental strategy to leverage AI for sustainable development, positioning Odisha as a forward-thinking state within India’s evolving technological landscape. By integrating AI into its operations, the Odisha government aims not only to enhance its administrative capabilities but also to set a precedent for other states in the country.
