Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates arrived in Amravati, Andhra Pradesh, ahead of the AI India Impact Summit in New Delhi. Gates was welcomed at Gannavaram Airport by Andhra Pradesh Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Nara Lokesh, who expressed optimism about future collaborations between the state and the Gates Foundation. In a post on X, Lokesh stated, “Welcome to Amaravati, Mr. Bill Gates. It was a pleasure to receive the Chair of the Gates Foundation at Gannavaram Airport today, along with my colleagues Home Minister Smt. Anitha Garu, Agriculture Minister Sri Atchannaidu Garu & Health Minister Sri Satya Kumar Garu. We have now proceeded to the Secretariat for discussions on strengthening partnerships in health, agriculture, education, and technology-driven governance. Andhra Pradesh looks forward to working closely with the Gates Foundation to create scalable, impactful solutions for our people.”

Gates is among a distinguished group of global leaders attending the AI Impact Summit, which will run from February 16 to 20, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to inaugurate the expo today at the Bharat Mandapam. The summit aims to showcase India’s ambitions in artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential to contribute significantly to global technology.

In a message on X, Prime Minister Modi welcomed delegates from around the world, emphasizing India’s rapid progress in science and technology. He remarked, “It is a matter of immense pride for us that people from all over the world are coming to India for the India AI Impact Summit. This also shows the capability of our country’s youth. This occasion is further proof that our country is progressing rapidly in the field of science and technology and is making an important contribution to global development.”

Set against the backdrop of India’s evolving technological landscape, the summit also features an unprecedented roster of international leaders, including Presidents, Prime Ministers, and Crown Princes, alongside renowned figures from Silicon Valley and beyond. This gathering reflects India’s aspirations as it prepares to host the AI Impact Summit 2026.

The upcoming summit, touted as the first international AI summit hosted in the Global South, aims to project New Delhi’s vision for an AI future that is not only impactful but also inclusive and responsible. Central to this initiative is India’s ambitious agenda for sovereign AI, positioning the country as a key player in the global AI arena.
