AMD has entered into a multi-year partnership with Meta to enhance the latter’s AI infrastructure through the deployment of 6 gigawatts of AMD Instinct GPUs. This collaboration will see AMD supplying custom high-performance GPUs based on the MI450 architecture, tailored specifically for Meta’s extensive AI workloads, with shipments anticipated to start in the second half of 2026.
Dr. Lisa Su, chair and CEO of AMD, expressed pride in the expanded partnership, stating, “We are proud to expand our strategic partnership with Meta as they push the boundaries of AI at unprecedented scale.” She highlighted that the collaboration aims to align AMD’s and Meta’s roadmaps across multiple generations of Instinct GPUs, EPYC CPUs, and rack-scale AI systems. The goal is to deliver an infrastructure that is both high-performance and energy-efficient, thereby accelerating one of the industry’s largest AI deployments and positioning AMD at the forefront of the global AI buildout.
The agreement also outlines Meta’s integration of AMD’s 6th Gen EPYC CPUs, codenamed “Venice,” into its AI infrastructure. This integration is expected to enhance workload density and optimize performance, marking a significant advance in Meta’s AI capabilities. AMD has also granted Meta a performance warrant for up to 160 million shares, contingent on GPU shipment targets and stock price benchmarks, which reinforces the financial stakes of this collaboration.
As part of their partnership, AMD and Meta are collaborating on the AMD Helios rack-scale architecture, a design established through the Open Compute Project. This architecture aims to facilitate the development of large-scale AI infrastructures, underscoring the strategic nature of the partnership in meeting the growing demands of AI technologies.
The collaboration not only underscores AMD’s commitment to the AI sector but also aligns with Meta’s broader ambitions to innovate within the realm of AI-driven solutions and experiences. By combining their technical expertise, AMD and Meta aim to create scalable and energy-efficient AI platforms that are crucial for future advancements in artificial intelligence.
The partnership is expected to deliver significant revenue growth for AMD while providing Meta with the tools necessary to pursue its next phase of global AI innovation. As both companies work toward realizing the full potential of their collaboration, the impact on the AI landscape could be profound, driving further advancements in technology and infrastructure.
