Kazakhstan has jumped 16 places in the Government AI Readiness Index 2025, now ranked 60th out of 195 countries, according to a recent report from the international analytical center Oxford Insights. Previously, Kazakhstan held the 76th position, as reported by The Caspian Post.
The Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development attributed this improved standing to enhanced institutional and infrastructure capacity, alongside the proactive integration of artificial intelligence into public administration and government services. Notably, Kazakhstan achieved a strong score of 73.59 points in Public Sector Adoption, indicating extensive use of digital solutions, an expansion of e-government platforms, and a transition towards proactive services for citizens and businesses.
Officials highlighted that Kazakhstan now leads the Central Asian region in AI readiness. The 2025 index utilized an updated methodology that emphasizes the state’s role in strategic planning and regulation, as well as the practical application of AI across the public sector and broader economy.
Oxford Insights also noted the country’s political capacity and governance readiness, citing the existence of strategic policy documents, a developing regulatory framework, and a consistent institutional focus on artificial intelligence. These elements, the report stated, have empowered Kazakhstan to pursue a long-term and systematic AI policy.
The findings not only celebrate the country’s progress but also outline priorities for further growth. These include the acceleration of AI solution commercialization, the development of the private tech sector and startups, broader market adoption, and improved business access to data and financing tools. As the country positions itself as a regional leader in AI, the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development is expected to enhance its commitment to fostering an innovative ecosystem.
Such advancements in AI readiness reflect a global trend where countries are increasingly prioritizing digital transformation. Governments worldwide are recognizing the significance of artificial intelligence in enhancing service delivery, optimizing resources, and driving economic growth. Kazakhstan, by improving its AI readiness, not only strengthens its internal capabilities but also enhances its attractiveness for international investors and partnerships.
As the landscape for artificial intelligence continues to evolve, Kazakhstan’s rising position in the Government AI Readiness Index could serve as a model for other nations in the region. The emphasis on regulatory frameworks, institutional focus, and practical applications of AI may pave the way for further innovations and collaborations. The journey ahead will require sustained efforts to maintain momentum, addressing challenges such as data accessibility and support for tech startups.
In conclusion, Kazakhstan’s climb in the Government AI Readiness Index exemplifies its commitment to embracing the digital future. The ongoing development of AI initiatives and policies could not only benefit the local economy but also establish Kazakhstan as a key player in the global AI arena.
