As Andhra Pradesh embarks on an ambitious journey to establish India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) University, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is actively seeking collaboration with global tech leaders. During the 30th CII Partnership Summit, held in Visakhapatnam on November 14-15, Naidu engaged in discussions with Yunjo Ko, the Chief Sustainability Strategy Officer of LG Chem. This meeting highlights the state’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge AI technologies into its educational framework.
In a focused interaction, Naidu expressed his desire to partner with LG AI Research, a subsidiary established in December 2020 that operates as a think tank for AI across the entire LG Group, which includes notable affiliates like LG Chem and LG Electronics. The Chief Minister outlined plans for the AI University in Amaravati, emphasizing that collaboration with LG could significantly enhance the university’s technological capabilities.
A senior official from the Andhra Pradesh government confirmed the discussions, stating, “The A.P. government expressed interest in collaborating with LG AI Research at the summit for the AI University. A team will be sent to the LG subsidiary soon for further progress.” This marks a pivotal step toward realizing the state’s vision for an AI-empowered educational institution.
Naidu’s engagement with LG is not a new development; earlier this year, he had met Hak Cheol Shin, Vice-Chairperson and CEO of LG Chem, at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2025. To bolster these efforts, Naidu also dispatched ministers to Seoul in September 2025, inviting Shin to the CII Partnership Summit to discuss investment opportunities in Andhra Pradesh. This ongoing dialogue reflects a sustained interest in building strong international partnerships to support local initiatives.
During the recent summit, the conversation shifted towards the prospects of LG AI Research, which is dedicated to advancing AI technologies, particularly in areas like language processing, vision, and data intelligence. This initiative includes significant projects such as the EXAONE series, which represents LG’s advanced large language models, with the latest iteration being EXAONE 4.0.
The collaboration with LG follows a similar partnership formed earlier this year when the Andhra Pradesh government signed a memorandum of understanding with California-based NVIDIA. This agreement aims to establish a robust AI ecosystem and educational institution within the state. The move to partner with LG AI Research adds another layer of international collaboration that could provide the university with valuable resources and expertise.
As Andhra Pradesh forges ahead with its AI University project, it is clear that the government is committed to harnessing global expertise to build a sustainable AI environment.
