CAMBRIDGE, England–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Content Catalyst, a leading technology partner for market insight publishers, has unveiled findings from its Analyst Research Leadership Survey 2026, revealing a notable shift towards artificial intelligence (AI) adoption within the industry. Based on responses from 35 senior leaders at global analyst research firms, the report highlights the increasing complexity and competitive pressures firms face as they navigate rapid technological changes.
The survey indicates that concerns among analyst firms regarding competition from AI-powered, low-cost research providers have surged, nearly doubling year-on-year to 54%. This statistic underscores a critical shift in the competitive landscape, where firms perceive their most significant threat not from other analyst houses but from self-service AI tools. These tools allow clients to conduct basic or generic analyses independently, compelling traditional firms to demonstrate the depth and rigor of their professional research.
While AI adoption is widespread, the survey reveals that progress is maturing at a slower pace than many firms anticipated. Approximately 57% of respondents reported being in the middle of the AI adoption curve, either piloting projects or deploying AI in specific functions. The application of AI is most prevalent in entry-level tasks, including first drafts, transcription, data categorization, and proofreading, all of which still require substantial human oversight.
Client expectations surrounding AI capabilities are notably high. According to the report, 63% of firms believe their clients expect AI-enabled search and discovery functionality, yet only 40% of firms rate their portals as good or excellent in this area. Additionally, 54% of clients are thought to expect AI-generated executive summaries or key takeaways, while 34% anticipate the ability to ingest content into their own AI tools. As most analyst research firms continue to pilot and experiment with AI, the urgency to meet these expectations is becoming increasingly critical.
Daniel Lord, Founder of Content Catalyst, emphasized the pivotal moment facing the analyst research industry. He noted that firms are recognizing that implementing AI is more complex than initially thought, while accessible AI tools are simultaneously reshaping competitive dynamics. “The firms that will thrive are those that lean into technology to free their analysts to do what they do best: provide the depth, context, and trusted expertise that no AI tool can replicate,” he stated.
The findings of this survey not only reflect the current state of AI integration within the industry but also signal an urgent need for firms to innovate and adapt. As competition intensifies and client expectations evolve, the ability to effectively harness AI could well determine the future success of analyst research firms.
