OpenAI Integrates Sora Video Generation into ChatGPT for 900M Users

OpenAI integrates its Sora video generation model into ChatGPT, targeting 900 million users to enhance video creation capabilities and user engagement.

OpenAI is reportedly preparing to integrate its AI video generation model, Sora, directly into ChatGPT, according to a report from The Information. This move aims to expand the reach of Sora, which currently operates as a standalone application allowing users to create short videos from text prompts.

Since its launch in 2025, interest in the Sora app has waned, evidenced by declining downloads and spending as it falls out of favor in Apple’s U.S. App Store rankings. By incorporating Sora into ChatGPT, OpenAI seeks to introduce the video generation capabilities to a significantly larger user base. ChatGPT boasted around 900 million weekly active users as of February, indicating a potentially vast audience for the integrated tool.

The integration will permit users to generate videos directly within ChatGPT, following a similar process to how the platform currently supports image generation and other multimodal functionalities. Despite this integration, the standalone Sora app will remain available for users who prefer it.

This strategic shift highlights OpenAI’s response to diminishing interest in Sora and its broader aim to enhance user engagement across its platforms. The decision reflects a growing trend among tech companies to consolidate various services into a single interface, thereby simplifying user experiences while maximizing exposure for their offerings.

As the landscape of AI-driven tools continues to evolve, the integration of Sora into ChatGPT represents a significant development in the intersection of text and video content creation. OpenAI’s efforts to leverage its existing user base could reshape how users interact with video generation technologies in the future, potentially setting new standards in the industry.
