The Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi (IIT Mandi) is set to host the third edition of HIVE, an international conclave focused on artificial intelligence, from March 30 to April 1 at its campus. This year’s event will emphasize multimodal AI and human-centered technologies, aiming to explore the intersection of collaborative intelligence and practical AI applications.
Organized in partnership with its Technology Innovation Hub, HIVE is anticipated to attract over 500 participants, including startups, researchers, and industry leaders. The conclave’s opening ceremony will be led by Kris Gopalakrishnan, co-founder of INFOSYS, who will serve as the chief guest.
This edition of HIVE will delve into the concept of multimodal AI, which synthesizes a variety of inputs—such as speech, vision, gestures, and sensor data—moving beyond traditional systems that handle information in isolation. Discussions will center on how these advanced technologies can enhance decision-making across diverse sectors, including healthcare, manufacturing, mobility, and education.
Notable global companies, including Amazon, Microsoft, Bosch, and Honeywell, will participate in the event, alongside researchers from esteemed institutions such as Stanford University and IISc Bengaluru. Organizers have indicated that this year’s HIVE will also tackle themes surrounding responsible AI, reflecting the growing global interest in multimodal systems due to their capacity to mirror real-world human interactions more accurately.
Somjit Amrit, CEO of the Technology Innovation Hub at IIT Mandi, commented, “By investing in multimodal AI research, the Technology Innovation Hub at IIT Mandi, we are laying the foundation for fluidic humanoid robots that would redefine human relationship with machines.” This statement underscores the institute’s commitment to pioneering technologies that could impact various facets of human-technology interaction.
As the technology landscape evolves, the conclave aims to forge stronger bonds between industry and academia, positioning itself as a significant platform for influencing the future of next-generation AI technologies. By focusing on the integration of various input modalities, the event seeks to not only address cutting-edge technological advancements but also their ethical implications and societal impacts.
With the rapid advancements in AI continuing to shape industries and everyday life, HIVE 2023 is poised to be a crucial event for stakeholders across the technology spectrum. The collaboration between leading companies and academic institutions could pave the way for innovative solutions that enhance quality of life and efficient decision-making processes in various sectors.
