Apple Unveils AI App Store, Enabling Third-Party Chatbots in Siri with iOS 27

Apple enhances Siri with third-party chatbot integrations via a new AI App Store in iOS 27, leveraging Google’s Gemini for a competitive edge.

Apple is reportedly gearing up to enhance its artificial intelligence capabilities this year, with plans to debut an updated version of Siri alongside the release of iOS 27. The new Siri, expected to be powered by Google’s Gemini models, may also introduce features that allow users to integrate third-party chatbots into the virtual assistant, a move aimed at expanding its functionality and market presence.

According to a recent report from Bloomberg, Apple is likely to introduce a feature tentatively dubbed Siri Extensions. This will enable users to run chatbots from various AI companies, such as Anthropic’s Claude, directly within Siri. Users will reportedly access these extensions through a dedicated AI App Store, which could create a new marketplace for AI services that connect seamlessly with Apple’s personal assistant. This approach not only offers a broader reach for AI companies but also positions Apple to collect significant commissions from the services offered.

This initiative comes as Apple faces ongoing challenges in developing its own AI models, prompting departures of key AI talent to competitors like OpenAI. In light of this, the company appears to be shifting strategy, leveraging its existing platforms to generate revenue rather than competing head-to-head with AI giants.

Apple’s plans also include a significant partnership to enhance Siri’s capabilities. The company has signed a deal to integrate Gemini-powered features into Siri, codenamed Campo, which is expected to be unveiled during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 8, 2026. Users are likely to wait until the official release of iOS 27, anticipated alongside the next generation of iPhones in fall 2026, particularly the iPhone 18 Pro series and a rumored foldable model, to experience these updates firsthand.

The revamped Siri is expected to offer enhanced functionalities, such as completing tasks and accessing information with greater efficiency. Furthermore, Apple is believed to be testing a standalone Siri app that would operate more like a chatbot, similar to popular AI systems like ChatGPT or Gemini, thereby enhancing user interaction and accessibility.

This strategic pivot reflects Apple’s recognition of its current standing in the AI landscape, as it seeks to diversify its offerings at a time when the competition in artificial intelligence is intensifying. By enabling third-party integrations and expanding its AI marketplace, Apple is not only positioning itself to maximize revenue potential but also addressing user demands for more versatile AI capabilities.

As the tech landscape continues to evolve, Apple’s upcoming initiatives serve as a reminder of the rapidly changing dynamics in the AI sector. With major advancements on the horizon, the company’s efforts to enhance Siri and create a robust marketplace for AI services could reshape the way users interact with technology in their daily lives.
