Lucknow: Students from Class IX to XII in Uttar Pradesh will now have the opportunity to study Artificial Intelligence (AI) as part of the vocational training programmes under ‘Project Praveen’, initiated by the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM). This initiative aims to empower youth with technological skills and is expected to benefit over 200,000 students across 1,200 government schools.
The programme will implement a specialised four-hour course titled ‘AI For All’, designed for both trainers and students in government secondary schools. This course seeks to enhance students’ problem-solving abilities, creative thinking, and digital literacy. According to Pulkit Khare, the director of UPSDM, the AI course will equip students with critical skills such as data analysis and innovative problem-solving, enabling them to compete effectively in the job market.
Khare emphasized the practical applications of AI, noting that knowledge in specific trades—including tailoring, healthcare, and IT—will enable students to work more efficiently in their chosen fields. To cater to diverse interests, specialised four-hour AI modules will be developed for popular job roles such as IT customer care executives, self-employed tailors, healthcare professionals, digital mitras, and soap makers.
Before the academic session of 2026-27 begins, UPSDM has instructed all instructors to complete their training for the ‘AI For All’ course. Additionally, trainers in five primary job roles will undergo advanced, subject-specific training to ensure they are well-equipped to guide students.
Project Praveen is a comprehensive 210-hour skill development initiative that offers free training designed for students in government secondary schools. In addition to standard academic subjects, the programme provides job-specific skills across various sectors, including IT, beauty, healthcare, and electronics.
“The AI course will empower students with a fundamental understanding of AI and its practical applications, turning future technological challenges into opportunities,” Khare stated. This forward-thinking approach underscores the growing recognition of AI as a vital component in many industries, preparing students not only for current demands but also for future innovations in technology. As automation and AI continue to reshape job landscapes, initiatives like Project Praveen are crucial in equipping the next generation with the skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
