The law mandates that providers of high-risk AI systems undergo conformity assessments prior to deployment, establishing a framework that blends regulatory oversight with operational accountability.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s Artificial Intelligence Basic Act, promulgated on January 8, 2025, is the briefest yet most principle-driven of the four. It outlines foundational governance principles, such as privacy protection and accountability, without imposing immediate compliance obligations on the private sector. Instead, sectoral regulations are to be developed over the next two years, reflecting an emphasis on harmonizing domestic legislation with international standards.
