Meta has launched a significant software update for its AI-powered smart glasses, enhancing user experience through improved audio quality and features tailored for music streaming with Spotify. The v21 update, which is part of Meta’s ongoing effort to refine its wearable technology, introduces advanced noise filtration and a new feature called “Conversation Focus,” aimed at amplifying clarity in noisy environments.
First highlighted at Meta Connect earlier this year, the Conversation Focus feature utilizes open-ear speakers embedded in the Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN glasses. This system selectively amplifies the voice of a person the user is conversing with, allowing for better communication in bustling settings such as crowded restaurants, public transportation, or large events. Users can modulate the amplification levels based on their surroundings, enhancing the usability of the product in various environments.
In tandem with this audio enhancement, Meta has introduced its inaugural multimodal AI music experience, developed in collaboration with Spotify. This feature allows users to request music that corresponds with their visual surroundings, merging on-device visual recognition with Spotify’s personalization algorithms. By doing so, the glasses can curate soundtracks tailored to specific moments, thus enriching the user’s auditory experience.
Additionally, Meta is expanding its focus on regional inclusivity by adding support for the Telugu and Kannada languages in its smart glasses. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance the accessibility of its AI offerings in India, catering to millions of users more naturally. With this update, Meta AI’s multilingual capabilities now extend beyond English and Hindi, reflecting the company’s commitment to localizing its AI technologies for diverse linguistic demographics.
The rollout of these enhanced features is initial and gradual, beginning with users who are part of Meta’s Early Access Programme. Wider availability is anticipated to follow, as Meta aims to refine the functionality and gather user feedback. The update signals not only a step forward in audio technology but also an important pivot towards inclusivity in AI interfaces, catering to a broader user base.
As Meta continues to innovate within the wearables market, these enhancements to the Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses may strengthen the company’s position in the competitive landscape of AI-powered devices. With a focus on improving everyday user experiences through practical features and localized support, Meta is poised to make significant strides in the integration of AI technology into daily life.
