Dharmendra Pradhan Chairs Edtech AI Roundtable at IIT Delhi to Boost National Education Goals

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan leads an Edtech AI Roundtable at IIT Delhi, uniting ten startups to explore AI’s transformative role in education and inclusivity.

Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan convened an Edtech AI Roundtable on Wednesday, bringing together founders from ten innovative Indian edtech startups at IIT Delhi. The roundtable was attended by Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for Education and Development of North Eastern Region, and Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State for Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship.

The gathering aimed to explore the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in transforming India’s education system, aligning with the goals set out in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This event is part of a series of initiatives by the Ministry of Education to maximize the impact of AI in educational frameworks.

As highlighted in a press release by the Education Ministry, the roundtable showcased a new wave of Indian edtech startups focused on AI-first solutions across various areas, including K-12 learning, test preparation, upskilling, language learning, and skill education. The emphasis was placed on reaching students in underserved regions, demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity.

The discussions served as a precursor to the upcoming India AI Impact Summit, where insights will inform policy considerations regarding the responsible adoption of AI. The summit will focus on implementation strategies and safeguarding measures to scale AI’s impact across sectors, particularly in education.

Following the roundtable, a two-day event titled the Bharat Bodhan AI Conclave is set to take place on Thursday and Friday. This conclave will gather senior policymakers from both Central and State governments, researchers, academic institutions, and industry leaders to discuss AI’s strategic role in revolutionizing India’s educational landscape, with an emphasis on innovation and national capacity building.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Pradhan engaged in meaningful discussions with the startup founders, who are crafting an indigenous ‘AI stack for the world from India.’ He underscored the importance of technology as a powerful agent for empowerment and inclusion, noting its potential to bridge the gap between hope and opportunity. The Minister reiterated AI’s crucial role in fulfilling the vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047.

Pradhan encouraged these entrepreneurs to develop inventive solutions that resonate with Indian values, languages, and contexts while maintaining global appeal. He assured participants of governmental support in optimally harnessing AI’s transformative power to address national educational and skilling priorities, thereby shaping India’s technological and digital sovereignty and establishing impactful digital public infrastructure in education.
