Basware Launches AI Certified Course for Finance Teams to Enhance Workflow Efficiency

Basware unveils its AI Certified course to empower 66% of finance leaders uncertain about AI integration, enhancing accounts payable efficiency and roles.

Basware has introduced a new certification programme designed to equip accounts payable (AP) professionals with the skills necessary to collaborate effectively with artificial intelligence (AI) agents. The initiative, termed the Basware AI Certified course, is structured into three primary sections: understanding AI, integrating it into existing workflows, and preparing for future developments in the field.

This programme targets AP clerks, invoice controllers, and finance team leaders, offering a practical approach that eschews technical jargon in favor of actionable insights about managing AI agents in daily operations. Participants will have the opportunity to observe AI functionalities within Basware’s ILM platform, showcasing how these agents perform routine tasks such as data extraction, coding, and routing—all while maintaining human oversight to ensure critical judgements are applied as needed.

The course aims to deliver several key learning outcomes, including a clear understanding of AI capabilities and limitations, distinguishing between automated and human-driven tasks, and enhancing day-to-day AP activities through AI collaboration. Professionals will also gain confidence in AI-assisted workflows and how to link current tools with the evolving landscape of finance.

Basware’s programme comes in response to increasing uncertainty within the industry surrounding agentic AI. A survey referenced by the company revealed that 66% of finance leaders perceive an excess of hype regarding agentic AI compared to past technological shifts, while 75% are still determining the best strategies for its implementation.

The company, which specializes in invoice lifecycle management software, enables organizations globally to process and manage invoices efficiently. Basware asserts that as AI adoption accelerates, an entirely new category of finance roles is emerging—professionals adept at managing, guiding, and optimizing AI agents as digital counterparts.

The certification course is framed not as a countermeasure to job displacement but as a means to foster professional growth, empowering AP personnel to view their responsibilities as evolving rather than diminishing. Basware CEO Jason Kurtz emphasized that while AI is transforming AP operations, it will not replace human teams. Instead, it will liberate them from routine tasks, allowing them to concentrate on strategic initiatives that drive profitability.

“To get the most out of AI agents, organizations need to treat them as digital employees,” Kurtz stated. “This means training individuals not only to use AI but to manage it effectively. Those who comprehend AI, know when to trust it and when to override it, and can enhance its performance over time will thrive.” He further remarked, “This is all about empowerment. We want every AP professional who takes it to walk away confident that they are not being replaced but becoming more valuable. This is an investment to build finance teams of the future, and our curriculum is designed to help AP professionals navigate this transformation with assurance.”

As organizations continue to adapt to the complexities of AI integration, Basware’s certification programme stands as a proactive measure, positioning finance teams to not only embrace but also excel in a landscape increasingly characterized by technological collaboration. This forward-looking approach underscores the shifting dynamics in finance roles, where human expertise remains paramount even as digital tools become more pervasive.
