Samsung Unveils EdgeFusion for Instant Offline AI Image Generation on Galaxy S26

Samsung partners with Note AI to launch EdgeFusion, enabling instant offline AI image generation on the Galaxy S26 with a 90% smaller software footprint.

As the launch date approaches for the next iteration of its flagship smartphone, rumors surrounding the **Galaxy S26** series continue to circulate. Although official confirmation from **Samsung** has yet to arrive, speculation suggests that the next **Unpacked event** may take place on **February 25**. While the spotlight usually shines on camera specifications or battery capacities, this year’s highlight is expected to be a revolutionary AI feature developed through a collaboration with South Korean AI firm **Note AI**. Dubbed **EdgeFusion**, this system may enable instant on-device image generation for the Galaxy S26 lineup.

Current smartphones, including the latest models from **Google** and **Apple**, predominantly rely on cloud servers for intensive AI tasks. This often results in frustrating delays as users wait for a remote server to process their requests, sometimes enduring loading times of 10 to 15 seconds. In contrast, EdgeFusion aims to eliminate this wait by executing tasks directly on the device.

Reports indicate that **Samsung** and **Note AI** have adapted a highly optimized version of the **Stable Diffusion** model, reducing its software footprint by up to **90%**. This significant reduction could allow the upcoming Galaxy S26 to generate images at a resolution of **512×512 pixels** almost instantaneously, even when the device is in airplane mode or has a poor network connection.

Technical Details

The rapid AI image generation feature is specifically designed for the new **Exynos 2600** chip, which is expected to power the standard S26 and S26+ models in various regions. The **Galaxy S26 Ultra**, however, is likely to be equipped with the **Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5** globally. It is reasonable to assume that this innovative feature will also be available on the premium model within the S26 series.

Beyond speed, processing AI locally offers additional advantages, including enhanced privacy and reliability. When images are generated on the device, users’ data remains secure, eliminating the need for transmitting prompts to a remote server. Additionally, this approach mitigates the inconvenience of AI functionalities failing due to a weak internet connection.

Nevertheless, the success of this feature hinges on whether the hardware can manage the heat and potential battery drain associated with such demanding processing tasks. Should the Galaxy S26 deliver on-device, photorealistic AI image generation, it could present a compelling reason for consumers to consider upgrading their devices this year.
