NEC Corporation has announced a collaboration with Anthropic to establish one of Japan’s largest AI-native engineering organizations, making the AI model Claude available to approximately 30,000 NEC Group employees globally. This partnership marks NEC’s entry as Anthropic’s first Japan-based global partner, with plans to develop secure, industry-specific AI products tailored for the Japanese market in sectors including finance, manufacturing, and local government.
Toshifumi Yoshizaki, Executive Officer and COO of NEC Corporation, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, “This long-term partnership with Anthropic enables NEC to maximize the potential of AI in the Japanese market. Together, we aim to create solutions that meet the high safety, reliability, and quality standards demanded by companies and public administration in Japan.”
The joint efforts between NEC and Anthropic will focus on developing secure, domain-specific AI products for various Japanese customers, particularly in finance, manufacturing, and cybersecurity. As part of these initiatives, NEC is already working to integrate Claude into its Security Operations Center services to combat increasingly sophisticated cybersecurity threats. In addition, Claude will play a role in NEC’s next-generation cybersecurity service.
Claude, including its variants Claude Opus 4.7 and Claude Code, will be incorporated into NEC BluStellar Scenario. This program aims to provide consulting, AI tools, security, and digital infrastructure to businesses, initially focusing on data-driven management and customer experience, with plans for future expansion into other areas.
To foster an AI-empowered engineering team, NEC plans to establish a Center of Excellence that will be equipped with technical training and support from Anthropic. This initiative aims to cultivate one of Japan’s largest AI-native engineering teams, with Claude Code serving as a pivotal resource in their operations. As part of its Client Zero initiative, where NEC acts as its own first customer, the company will further expand its use of Claude Cowork across its internal business operations.
Deployment of Claude to NEC Group employees is now underway, with joint development of industry-specific AI solutions actively progressing. The collaboration aims to enhance NEC’s capabilities in delivering tailored AI solutions that align with the unique requirements of the Japanese market. Businesses can learn more about NEC’s value-creation model through NEC BluStellar, which encompasses its broader digital transformation efforts.
With the rising demand for AI solutions across various sectors, this partnership between NEC and Anthropic signifies a strategic move to leverage advanced AI technologies in Japan. As both companies work towards developing a robust AI framework, the implications for cybersecurity and other industries could be substantial, potentially setting new standards for AI applications within the region.
