SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–A new report from Nylas indicates that the landscape of artificial intelligence is evolving rapidly, with 67% of developers and product leaders currently building or deploying agentic workflows. The findings, part of the 2026 State of Agentic AI report, stem from a survey involving over 1,000 professionals engaged in the development of agentic systems.

According to the research, a striking 85% of respondents anticipate that AI agents will become a standard requirement—referred to as “table stakes”—within the next three years. This shift suggests a transition from experimental uses of AI to more widespread operational implementations, fundamentally altering how organizations assess their software infrastructures.

“As agentic AI moves into production environments, the competitive dynamic is shifting,” said Jeff Koets, CEO of Nylas. “This is not about adding AI features. It is an infrastructure race. The vendors that provide clean data layers, reliable APIs, and governance built into their architecture will capture the next phase of market movement.”

Despite the rapid adoption, the report highlights a cautious approach among teams deploying agentic systems. Most workflows are being introduced gradually, with significant emphasis on human oversight and governance mechanisms. Builders are focusing on reliability, observability, and compliance as they incrementally expand agentic capabilities within real-world applications.

Businesses across various sectors are already witnessing extensive integration of AI agents into their operations. For instance, Zeb Evans, Founder and CEO of ClickUp, a longstanding customer of Nylas, reported that the company now employs over 3,258 AI agents working alongside 1,300 human employees. “Managers’ agents will manage their ICs’ agents—overseeing them for human-in-the-loop interactions,” Evans noted, illustrating the emerging complexities of AI-human collaboration.

The report’s results underscore a critical transition in the adoption of agentic AI. As these technologies become embedded in everyday workflows, decision-making regarding infrastructure is taking on a strategic importance. Platforms capable of supporting scalable, compliant, and production-ready agentic systems are poised to define the future trajectory of the market.

With the demand for robust AI capabilities continuing to grow, the survey reveals that 94% of participants are open to switching vendors in search of more scalable and compliant solutions. This suggests that organizations are actively seeking out the most effective and reliable technologies to enhance their operations.
