Checkr Launches “Vibe Coding” Initiative, Enabling 95% Employee AI App Development

Checkr empowers 95% of its employees to develop AI applications through its new “vibe coding” initiative, enhancing productivity across departments.

The San Francisco-based AI startup Checkr is launching an initiative called “vibe coding,” empowering employees across various departments to develop business applications and automate tasks without prior coding experience. Announced on Saturday, the initiative aims to enhance productivity among staff in roles such as HR, finance, and legal, according to a report from Business Insider.

CEO Daniel Yanisse noted that Checkr has already observed significant uptake of AI tools among its workforce. “We gave every employee a monthly stipend to try AI tools, and we did AI days and demos. After one year, 95% of the employees use prompting daily,” Yanisse stated. He emphasized that the company plans to build upon this foundation with the new vibe coding initiative.

Employees are utilizing AI to create applications that automate workflows and address practical challenges, such as organizing large spreadsheets. Checkr is currently trialing several AI development platforms, including Lovable, Replit, Claude Code, and Cursor. Yanisse highlighted Lovable as particularly suitable for beginners, while Cursor has gained traction among both engineers and non-technical staff.

To facilitate this transition, Checkr has enlisted AI solution engineers who assist employees in navigating challenges, ensuring they achieve successful outcomes. “They would come and help you and unstuck you if you have a problem, and take you all the way to success,” Yanisse explained.

The concept of “vibe coding” has sparked discussions about its potential impact on innovation and productivity. Earlier, Peter Steinberger, the creator of the popular AI agent Clawdbot (now known as OpenClaw), mentioned that his deep involvement in vibe coding led him to take a step back for mental health reasons. Clawdbot, which integrates with popular messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram, allows users to manage schedules, oversee AI coding sessions, and create virtual employees. Steinberger cautioned that AI-assisted development could turn addictive without clear project goals.

In a broader context, Bret Taylor, board chair of OpenAI, indicated a shift towards autonomous AI agents capable of executing tasks independently, potentially replacing traditional applications and dashboards. While AI has reduced development costs, maintaining code poses ongoing challenges, making off-the-shelf solutions an attractive alternative.

The rise of AI-driven tools reflects a significant transformation in how employees interact with technology, democratizing the capability to innovate and automate. As organizations like Checkr invest in these initiatives, the landscape of business application development is set to evolve, potentially redefining roles and responsibilities in the workplace.
